Creighton’s breakdown on how he achieved Melissa’s look:

The initial idea for Melissa Leo’s Oscars hairstyle was to create something effortless and carefree à La Dolce Vita, but the look also needed to be about the silhouette: I developed a style that would complement the dramatic collar of her dress and elongate the line of her body.

I started out by applying Leonor Greyl Lait Luminescence Bi-Phase Detangling Milk and Condition Naturelle Heat Protecting Styling Spray to Melissa’s towel-dried hair. I used Gel à La Kératine, an alcohol-free styling gel, on her hairline to hold all of the tiny, curly strands in place.

Then, I blow-dried her hair with a medium-sized round brush so it wouldn’t be completely straight: I wanted a little curl at the ends. One of the best things about doing a round-brush blow-dry is that it enables you to lock in shine even if you are creating a rough, modern texture.

After drying, I worked a few drops of Serum de Soie Sublimateur, a silicone-free anti-frizz serum, through Melissa’s hair; created a section from ear to ear across the back of her head; and pulled the section up into a high, tight ponytail. Then, I loosely incorporated the sides and top of the hair into the ponytail to achieve softness while maintaining tightness at the nape of her neck. It was very important to keep it tight in the back to avoid interfering with the collar of Melissa’s dress.

I wrapped the pieces into a high chignon and secured everything with Voluforme setting and styling spray. Before the red carpet, Melissa and I had a bet going about her hair: she said she would let me do an updo if I could achieve the whole look with four hairpins or less. I like to call it “The Four Hairpin Challenge.” I knew that I could definitely do that with Leonor Greyl products!

After a little backcombing at the crown of Melissa’s head, the final step was to tease out the pieces in the front. My method to create that sort of effortlessness is to pull everything back and let whatever falls out fall out. If you force strands out to frame the face, it looks too specific, but if you let them fall out naturally, it produces a very soft effect.

1) Diamond Head: This is the most famous volcanic crater in the world, and has breathtaking views. You will have to hike for approximately one hour; the trail is rated easy to moderate, but it can be steep in some spots. The site also has an observation deck and tunnel, so remember your flashlight as well.

2) Pearl Harbor: There are several tours available, with tour guides providing live historical narrations of that fateful day in history that will never be forgotten.

3) Paradise Cove Luau: You cannot go to Hawaii and miss out on the luau experience. While there are several places you can go to see a luau, Paradise Cove is one of the best. It is more than just a luau; it is a cultural experience with dinner, shows, arts and crafts and more.

4) Iolani Palace: A national historic landmark, Iolani palace has been restored to its former grandeur and offers a spectacular tour of the official residence of former Hawaiian royalty, King Kalakaua and his successor Queen Lili'uokalani. The grounds are just as impressive as the palace itself.

5) Manoa Falls: If you are a more experienced hiker, you will want to plan a trip to Manoa Falls. The hike is rated easy, but goes through rainforest, and a bamboo forest. You will be rewarded with an incredible view of the falls, which is a vertical drop of 150 feet into a small pool of water. Remember to bring drinking water on this hike, and note that you cannot swim, as the bottom of the pool is filled with boulders.

These are just a few of the breathtaking sites that Honolulu has to offer; ask your travel agent if any of these trips can be included as part of your travel package. If you are like most people, this is a trip of a lifetime, so you will want to book at least one or two of these tourist attractions. Honolulu is rich in history and culture and you will be hard-pressed to find friendlier people.

All the basic recipes below are made with store cupboard ingredients and can be adjusted according to your own personal taste.

Tip 1: The Best Facial Cleanser

For this excellent facial cleanser combine 80% olive oil with 20% castor oil and customize to your own skin type with essential oils. Gently massage the oil combination into the face and neck for about two minutes, follow this by draping a warm, damp wash cloth over your face and leave until cool. Once removed, gently wipe off the oil with the cool, damp cloth. One or two drops of the oil may be used to moisturize your skin afterward.

Tip 2: Face and Body Exfoliant

Olive oil is the perfect ingredient to add to an exfoliant because of the anti-inflammatory and antioxidant qualities of the oil. Take two or 3 tablespoons of olive oil and add two or three tablespoons of bicarbonate of soda, the finer the crystals of soda the better, you are aiming for a mildly abrasive mixture. The bicarbonate of soda can also be replaced with sugar. You can also add a few drops of essential oils to the basic recipe.

Tip 3: Bath Time Luxury

You do not need expensive potions to enjoy a luxurious bath time. Adding a couple of tablespoons of olive oil to the bath water will ensure that your soak will leave your body cleansed and well moisturized. To take your bath time experience to another level, add a few drops of your favorite essential oil and lie back and relax.

Tip 4: Soften Hard Cuticles

Warm a few tablespoons of olive oil and add to freshly squeezed lemon juice, three parts oil to one part juice and simply soak your fingertips for ten to fifteen minutes. The combination of the olive oil and lemon juice will gradually strengthen your nails making them more resistant to chipping.

Tip 5: Moisturizing Hand Treatment

Before going to bed, smooth a generous amount of warm olive oil on your hands and put on plain, white cotton gloves and then go to sleep. In the morning your hands will be soft and smooth.

It is worth bearing in mind that the cold pressed extra virgin olive oil has the highest concentration of nutrients and because of the extraction process used, no chemical additives, it is therefore the very best for eating and applying to your skin. Always buy the best that you can afford and you will reap the health and beauty benefits.

Finally the baby eggplants go very well with red snapper. Why the red snapper since The Red Crush Granite seems to be the in cocktail related to the movie I thought red snapper would be a great substitute and the delicious eggplants easily compliment this dish.

Rub remaining mixture over pork. Add vinegar and remaining brown sugar to slow-cooker; stir to mix. Add pork.

2. Cover and cook on low 8 to 10 hours until pork is fork-tender. Remove pork to cutting board and pull into shreds. Return to slow-cooker; add scallions and toss to coat.

3. Put about 1/4 cup onto each bun bottom. Top with bun tops

Ingredients

• 1 pound baby eggplants (6), trimmed and halved lengthwise
• 1 teaspoon kosher salt
• 2 tablespoons soy sauce
• 2 tablespoons mirin* (Japanese sweet rice wine)
• 1 1/2 tablespoons vegetable oil

Turn over and brush with soy mixture. Fry eggplants until tender, 4 to 6 minutes more, then add remaining soy mixture to skillet and cook, turning eggplants once or twice, until liquid is absorbed, about 2 minutes.
