Halloween Recipes for Parties

Halloween Recipes for Parties

Author: kevin

No matter what the occasion is, you will always like your guests to love the delicacies you prepare and expect that the taste should linger in the mouth for long. Halloween recipes for parties should be a mixture of weird looking yet tasty dishes.

Surprise your guests at the Halloween party to let them know how dangerous looking recipes can be delicious too. Prepare creepy confectionaries, snacks, recipes, drinks and cocktails to welcome the goblins and ghouls to the party.

Recipe Ideas

  • Monster Breads

Take a few bread slices, cut them in various shapes. Then place cheese sheet over it and add a few edible stuffs to it to make it look like a ghost or monster. You may make eyes with olives and hair with spring onion or scallion. Also, make nose and teeth with carrot.

  • Skeleton Cookies

Bake your favorite cookies in different shapes, most likely in the shapes of animals or humans. And just to add the Halloween effect, use white frostings or icings to make a skeleton structure over it.

  • Vampire Apple Bite

This will be a real frightening snack for your guests in the Halloween party. This is a healthy and funny break from the Halloween sweets and confectioneries. Simply cut an apple into four quarters. Use the skin side of the apple to cut wedges to make a mouth. For that spooky look, make vampire fangs by fixing peeled almonds on the apple.

  • Watermelon Brain

Peel a medium sized watermelon. Make sure it is a red watermelon. Then slightly cut the base of the melon so as to rest it flat on the surface. Now to let it resemble a brain, just carve narrow channels that let the red surface to expose beneath the white rind of the melon.

  • Bloody Cocktail

Take apple cider and add a few drops of red and green food colors to it to give a bloody red color to it. Then add a few gummy insects to the glass and the serving jar as well. Stick a few insects on the edges of the glasses. Sticking gummy worms to the edges would add the spooktacular effect to the Halloween cocktail.

  • Monster Fingers

Use monster fingers snacks to make your guests burst into a surprise scream. Take any of the vegetable dips and five carrots of the appropriate size to resemble fingers and thumb. Peel the carrot and place in the vegetable dip as a hand popping out of it. Make nails out of peeled almonds. Carve the carrot to fix the almond-nails into it.

Here are some of the spooky and eerie Halloween recipes for parties. Add your creativity if you have any idea to add to the disguise of the dishes and surprise the guests. Dress up in the Halloween costume while you are serving the goblins. Hope you find the recipes interesting and helps you to make your Halloween celebrations happening as ever.

10 Tips On How To Vacation On A Tight Budget

10 Tips On How To Vacation On A Tight Budget

Author: Nathan

To get started, first you need to figure out how much money it will take and how far it will take you. You can check hotel rates here but things like airfare or gas (if you're driving) will have to be factored in. If your budget is super tight... then you'll probably be driving. I have a family of 4 and when airfare was out of the question we had a couple of choices: the beach or the mountains. Both included a 5 hour drive. Here are some tips based on how we did it.

  1. Begin saving long before you take the trip. This actually makes the trip more exciting for everyone. In fact, we probably got more joy out of the buildup than we did the actual getaway! Of course, we weren't able to save big chunks of cash so we put a "vacation jar" in the kitchen and every night we would empty our pocket change into it. It was just change so it didn't seem like a big deal. We started this practice almost 10 years ago and it worked so well we just kept at it out of habit. Then, a week or two before trip time, we emptied out the jar and started rolling coins (don't have to do that anymore since our bank got a machine that does it for us automatically-- I miss the family change counting night though!). If you do this religiously, you can expect around $300 after 12 months. Not bad considering you'll never even miss it! I have always used this money as travel money: gas & food stops on the way back.

  2. Use your federal tax refund money. I know, we could have used it somewhere else (bills, new carpet, etc.) but we didn't. The last time we used it we actually held a family vote because we really needed some work done on the flooring in our house. Vacation won by a landslide! We decided we just wouldn't look down while walking through the house.

  3. Pack food & drinks for the drive there and for that night. That first day, when everyone wakes up pumped about going somewhere, no one cares that much about eating in a fancy restaurant along the way. Put your vacation cd in, roll down the windows, and snack most of the way. When it comes time to eat something more substantial, stop at a rest area and use one of their picnic tables. This will turn into a fun part of the adventure and you won't feel like you're scrimping at all (even though you are- even a McDonald's lunch for 4 easily wastes $25). Also, use the rest area's for bathroom stops. Gas stations are more convenient but they also offer more temptation to spend here and there on soda's, gum, candy, etc. Once you arrive, explore a bit then come back to the room for dinner (the dinner you prepared that's been waiting in the cooler... oh yeah, get a cooler).

  4. The first morning is wonderful. Everyone's still excited. And, no one's upset about eating the complimentary breakfast at the hotel (if there is one) or the cereal and fruit you already packed. At this point we're a day and a morning into the vacation- 4 meal-money-pitfalls- and we haven't spent a dime on food and drinks! This is about to change...

  5. We almost always try to find a place that is reasonable but also has a kitchen with an oven and a refrigerator. Sometimes it costs a little more to rent a house or condo on/near the beach but we've done the math and when you factor in food, the kitchen is cheaper every time! So, our first full day includes a visit to the local grocery store (which is also always fun for some reason) and we buy a week's worth of food and drinks. Oh yeah, forgot to mention, my wife already has a meal plan ready so there isn't an overwhelming amount of impulse purchasing. Pancakes at the local breakfast place might be $5.00... we can get a week's worth for that and some syrup! We will splurge one or two days and eat out but we usually do that at lunch. Even at fancy restaurants, lunch prices can literally be half what the dinner menu charges. And after a day of "vacationing" it has always been kind of nice to get back and eat a lazy dinner while watching a movie or playing a game. Oh yeah, a washer & dryer is definitely a plus!

  6. Find free activities beforehand by researching the area you'll be visiting on the internet. Tripadvisor is a good place to start. Google works well too. If there is a state park near, you can always find hiking trails. If there's a beach, that's good for tons of free fun. Every place is different but one thing's for sure: there's something fun to do for free almost everywhere.

  7. Plan your "paid" excursions and stick them either in the middle or toward the end of the vacation. We usually try to do 2 things that cost money on a 7 day vacation. And we try to schedule them 3 or 4 days in (right around the time we usually get bored just exploring the new area). Look for coupons for these paid events online and print them out before you leave. Also, check the nearest rest stop for coupons (they usually have a wall of coupons and brochures).

  8. This may or may not work for you but... if there's a family you get along with really well, you might consider splitting the cost on a vacation rental with them. The price difference between a 4 bedroom rental house and a 2 bedroom rental house usually isn't that big (if you shop around). The place I used last was called Vacation Rentals By Owner.

  9. Stop by the visitor center (if the place has one) and chat with the people who work there. They often have great advice about cool things to do in the area and they also have more coupons!

  10. Have a family fundraiser. Seriously. Who says you can't have a car wash or doughnut sale or [insert generic fundraiser here] with proceeds going toward your trip? Or how about a vacation yard sale? Whatever you do, if you do it as a family with a specific goal in mind, it can become great fun.

I'm going to stop at 10 but there are many other ways to manage a vacation on a tight budget. Keeping googling and include the whole family in the game plan- it's part of the fun!

Fall 2011 Top Beauty Trends

Fall 2011 Top Beauty Trends

Author: Steve Pearson

With fall fast approaching, it's that time of year when we need to give our make-up bags an update. Our easy breezy summer time make-up took on more of an on-the-go status as the months went on. It's time to polish it up a bit.

This fall is moody and edgy with a twist of natural beauty stuck right in the middle. Full natural brows frame metallic eye shadows while long lean lashes bring on the glam. Red lips and deep blue nails lend to the edginess of fall's look.

Eyes

Brows take on a more natural look this season from the past year or so. We've had thinner more defined and sculpted brows in recent past. This is good news for those ladies with naturally thick brows. No need to endure the pain of waxing and tweezing this season. For those with naturally thin brows, it may be time to invest in a good brow powder or liner to fill them in.

Eye shadow statements are vastly different this season. From very edgy metallic, smoky eyes to very light and natural with minimal eye shadow. However, long luscious lashes are very much a must with either look. We have seen thick lashes in past seasons, but this seasons lashes are long and lean, almost spiky. False is in for sure!

Skin & Hair

Smooth glowing skin is always in no matter what the season or time of year. This fall, hold on to your summer tan that you worked hard all summer to get. Fading a little faster than you would like? Spray tans have come a long way. Not just for the Jersey Shore types anymore, spray tans are all the rage. With different levels of shades you will not have to worry about looking orange anymore.

Hair takes on 3 big trends this fall. Braids worn to the side, feathers and big loose curls will be seen. Braids were very popular this summer and have made it in to another season. They can be worn in a variety of ways – long down your back or bangs braided to the side. One of the most popular is the loosely braided hair swept to the side with an, ‘oh I didn't even try to do that' flair.

One of the most popular is the loosely braided hair swept to the side with an, ‘oh I didn't even try to do that' flair.

Nails

Blue nails are a big trend showing up on many celebrities from Christina Aguilera to Victoria Beckham. Blue polish runs from very pale to very dark and metallic or sparkly in between. This fashion statement may not be for everyone though. Picking the right shade of blue for your skin tone is tricky.

Darker shades of blue are generally more flattering to more women. Choose a midnight blue and you probably can't go wrong. For fairer skin ladies, a milky light blue will in most cases not flatter so test a few first before buying. This trend is where medium to dark skinned women will be able to play with the blues a little more as most will be flattering.

Keep nails short, neat and well manicured as these color trends are sure to draw attention to your hands. No one will be impressed by your being on trend when they see chipped nail polish and rough looking cuticles. Don't forget your toes either! The weather may be changing, but you can still wear shoes to show off your blue or pale pink toes.

Lips

Red lips are all the rage and will most likely stay through winter. We haven't seen them since around 2009. The red vampy lips are back with a vengeance. Say goodbye to the neutral tones we've grown to love and say hello to red!

Before you run out and buy the first red lipstick you see, take note that this is a very bold statement. Choose wisely as this should not be taken lightly. Not all reds are created equal. Just as not all skin tones are created the same. More pale and dewy skin types cannot wear the same deep red that a more mahogany skinned woman can.

With red lips we need to remember that heavily lined lips are out. Unless, however, you are using a matching lip liner to the red you have chosen. Because red look best on voluptuous lips, a girl with less than a pouty mouth will need to line around the outer edge of her lip line. You will also want to fill in the bottom lip with liner before applying lipstick. These both will give the illusion of a fuller, more pin-up girl look.

To be on trend this fall choose the right blue for your nails and the right red for your lips. Hair is big and glammed up with loose curls or pulled over in a braid to the side. Big spiky lashes and metallic shadows or not. Channel your inner Boho chic with feathers or your Bridgette Bardot with scarlet red lips and big curls. From super glam pin-up girl to natural woman - this fall can be edgy or laid back.

The Allure of Red Boots

The Allure of Red Boots

Author: Indy M

If you are seeking to stand out from the crowd, the 1 color you should pick is red. Red shoes are not probably the most common in the marketplace as many don't really know how you can match them. Because it isn't a subtle color, matching them can sometimes be difficult.

To obtain attention wear red; especially red boots. If you are contemplating on undertaking much more daring colors into your wardrobe, consider red and its many shades . From the darker chocolate reds to the much more brighter reds, there is a shade of red that will please everyone . Red isn't a drastic color as some people picture it to be.

If you are thinking of adding red boots to your collection of shoes, just keep in mind a couple of things. 1 of them becoming; what kind of boots do you want and what shade of red do you fancy. If you aren't ready to wear bold shades of red, you can choose instead lighter shades of red in ankle length boots. Think about getting a flat soled pair in a deep red.

If not, a kitten heeled pair of ankle boots in leather or suede will function also. These boots presents a much more matte red due to its supplies, hence, it'll not be as bold as patent leather pairs. Red boots can suit numerous assorted outfits and when buying a pair, make certain that it will go with at least a couple of one's outfits. It is indeed very versatile and a good investment.

A pair of boot leg jeans having a red shirt or easy white shirt would go perfectly with your red ankle length boots. They could also be worn with khaki or tan knee length skirt or shorts. Why not try a pair of red Uggs, if you like them much better. Not just would they maintain your feet warm and comfy throughout cold wintry months, they'll also draw lots of attention.

If you would like a bit more red inside your ensemble, what about wearing red calf length or knee length boots. You can discover them flat soled or with heels. Wedged heeled boots also works and looks trendy when matched with either a denim or flouncy skirt. Many females are willing to get an additional pair of boots for other occasions as they're used to wearing boots within the form of wellies.

Red leather boots are a perfect accessory with leggings or jeggings and add a touch of style when teamed up with a loose white blouse having a red belt and a red stripe tote bag. Red is an appealing color and makes the outfit you wear outstanding. Your option is limitless for there are lots of designs available ranging from lace-ups to slip-ons.

If you want something unique, go for boots which have rhinestones and zippers. Maintain issues easy and never wear them too frequently as it'll dilute the impact. These boots are bright, loud and will certainly make a splash.

A basic buying guide to Pearls

A basic buying guide to Pearls

Author: Michelle

Before we go into how to select the best pearls for you, it is important to firstly learn about the different types of pearls available on the market today. There are various types of pearls, including both faux (imitation), cultured and natural pearls. Prices also range widely, so it is quite possible to purchase lovely pearls within any budget.

Types of Pearls -

  1. Glass Based Pearls. Glass pearls are very inexpensive, however can still look very nice. The benefit of glass pearls is that you can have extra large, perfectly round pearls at a very affordable price. Even within the category of glass pearls there are variations in quality. Glass pearls are usually a made from a solid white glass beads, coated in a pearlised paint. Cheaper glass pearls will often have their coating peel off very quickly, while better quality glass pearls will remain lovely for years. Look for glass pearls where the coating around the hole is not peeling at all, and test the paint with your fingernail to test how easily it will scratch off. If you can peel off paint with your fingernail, the quality is not very high. It is easy to distinguish glass pearls from other types of pearls, as they are lighter in weight and will be perfectly round with no surface blemishes.

  2. Shell Based Pearls. A step up from glass based pearls, shell based pearls are also faux pearls at a fraction of the price of natural pearls. Shell based pearls are made from the oyster that the shell forms in. The shell is crushed down and reconstituted to form a perfectly round pearl with a very high lustre. Shell based pearls can be quite difficult to tell apart from natural pearls, as they are very similar in their basic chemical structure. The weigh the same as natural pearls, and also wear the same. Like natural pearls, shell based pearls should be worn often as if they are not worn often they will lose their lovely lustre. The easiest way to tell if pearls are natural or shell based is to look at the price. Shell based pearls are perfectly round – a strand of perfectly round natural pearls is usually anywhere from a few hundred dollars to several thousand dollars. Shell based pearls are usually under $100 per strand.

  3. Cultured Freshwater Pearls. Hugely popular, cultured freshwater pearls are quite affordable. They are a natural pearl that has formed in an oyster, however the process has had a helping hand from man. Small 'seeds' are inserted into the oyster, usually made from small pieces of shell or plastic. These imitate the natural pearl formation process in which a piece of grit enters the oyster, causing irritation to the oyster and thus resulting in the oyster forming a pearl around the grit. Cultured freshwater pearls vary in price widely, anywhere from about $2.00 for low quality, irregular pearls, up to hundreds of dollars for round pearls with high lustre. Cultured freshwater pearls are commonly used in costume jewellery, as they add an element of class with the hefty price tag.

  4. Natural Pearls. These are pearls that have formed in nature, without the assistance of man. These are far less common than all the above types of pearls, and again the quality widely varies. Pearls that are round, with high lustre and no blemishes are most prized.

The above lists the most common types of pearls available as jewellery in the market today. When choosing your pearls, you must firstly consider your price range. The first three categories are very affordable (glass pearls, shell based pearls and cultured freshwater pearls). Shell based pearls and freshwater pearls are not hugely more expensive than glass pearls, so in my opinion they are the best options. If you are looking for the classic perfect round pearl, opt for shell based pearls. If you are looking for a less formal look, nugget shaped freshwater pearls are very popular. I am often asked whether or not to buy a particular freshwater pearl. My answer is always the same and very simple – if you like the look of the pearls, buy them! Freshwater pearls are not expensive, and not an investment for the future like natural pearls once were. Small blemishes, rings or dimples are quite unnoticeable and actually give the pearls character. With China producing so many freshwater pearls, prices have dropped dramatically and you can afford to own several different strands – one for each day of the week!

A Lady Gaga Inspired Bedroom Design for a Young Adult

A Lady Gaga Inspired Bedroom Design for a Young AdultA Lady Gaga Inspired Bedroom Design for a Young Adult

By Robin De Groot

Creative. Conceptual. Quintessential. Sexy. Unique. These are just a few words that can describe Lady Gaga, who was crowned the most powerful celebrity in 2011 (she even beat Oprah!). Gaga is known for her activism, inspiring a "Born this Way" campaign, she has a following of 'little monsters', and is even coming out with a clothing line with her little sister, Natali. So it's not surprising that Gaga's passion for fashion can easily be translated into design and home dcor.

There are just so many possibilities that I don't even know where to begin!

One thing definitely applies for design inspired by Gaga: there are no rules! If you're itching to design a Gaga-inspired bedroom or lounge, remember that less is never best (because with Gaga, you can never have too much!). Just think of her many daring and exaggerated outfits; she is definitely a centerpiece herself. Speaking of centerpieces, I recommend an over-the-top chandelier as a focal piece - such as one of Foucault's orb crystal chandeliers, it is sure to be a conversation piece in itself. This chandelier (by Restoration Hardware) is reminiscent of Gaga's orb headpiece that she wore on the Fall Preview Issue (#60) of V Magazine or the Nasir Mazhar designed metal orbs that she wore in 2009 while performing at Saturday Night Live.

Texture is important when creating a Gaga-esque style. You can never have enough texture. Don't be afraid to mix and match! For example, you can try mixing silky soft bedding, in rich colours like fuchsia, royal purple or deep blue, with textured throw rugs or blankets. I recommend a beautiful sheepskin throw that you can elegantly drape at the foot of your bed to add a splash of colour and a touch of warmth. These rugs are also multipurpose because you can drape them over your chairs to protect the upholstery or add some comfort to your precious derriere. Don't forget to add some fun to your accessories, like incorporating oversized throw pillows with cutes silk bows on them, which draws from Lady Gaga's bow hair that she wore during her Poker Face days.

Go crazy with the wall colours. Don't be afraid to use bold paint colours or even patterned wallpapers (remember to colour block one feature wall boldly with either paint or wallpaper and then mute the surrounding walls). If you're going for the elegant Gaga look, I suggest using damask-patterned wallpaper in a dark colour, such as black or grey. You can even pick something that has a slight sheen to it. The dark colours will make your accents pop and draw more attention to your focal pieces, like the chandelier. A high gloss pink (or white) lacquered cupboard would not only act as a storage unit for your clothes, but would ground the space giving your colour palatte the ability to pop more. Make sure to include a variety of oversized floor mirrors so you can check yourself out while adding some style. I'm sure that Gaga would approve!

If you're a guy and don't want to add some of the frilly design elements, like the bows or "girly" colours, stay in the dark tones - like black, silver, and deep shades of blue (such as navy blue, cobalt blue or midnight blue) which will add more of a typical masculine element to the bedroom. You can even add in a splash of red as an accent colour (try Valentino Red) in some geometric shapes, like some geometric patterned mirrors, that are recurring throughout Gaga's Poker Face video (and a current theme in her wardrobe, too). Or incorporate a headboard made of leather that is reminiscent of Gaga's biker-chick look on her Born this Way album.

Whatever your plan is, don't forget to have fun with it. Gaga is all about fun, freedom, taking risks and being yourself. As Gaga herself would say, "don't be a drag, just be a queen!"

Caring for Clip in Hair Extensions

As clip in hair extensions are made from real hair you can care for them in a similar way to your own natural hair. Many retailers and users recommend using mild baby conditioner and an ionic hair dryer which dries the hair faster using a lower temperature. You can also purchase oils such as Moroccan Argan oil which adds moisture, helps control frizz and smoothes hair beautifully.

Got Friends Coming Over In 30 Minutes And No Idea How To Cook Chicken?

Got Friends Coming Over In 30 Minutes And No Idea How To Cook Chicken?
Got Friends Coming Over In 30 Minutes And No Idea How To Cook Chicken?

By Mike Hebsgaard

Imagine this. On your way home you get a call proclaiming that you will be having guests for dinner. Good friends are coming over and you really want to make an impression. All you have in the kitchen is some chicken breast and some rice. Worse, you don't have time to do extensive shopping. In fact, it needs to be something you can get ready pretty fast. Most of us have been in that situation, and I bet most of us have felt a pinch of panic!

Driving home from work you will be wondering how you can get out of this one. When you realize you can't, you'll start wondering what the heck you're going to do?

Life has become a contest. You need to show the world, including your friends, that you've got it covered. Some might call that superficial...and they're probably right, but that's just how it is. So, something as simple as a dinner with friends now need to run like a well-planned military operation. Naturally, you'd like the outcome to be a bit more pleasant than a military operation, but you still have to produce the goods.

We live in a world where everything including having friends over for dinner can have a huge impact on your social status. Everything you say and do can be shared with millions in just a few seconds. In some circles dinner gone bad can ruin a relationship. So, chances are you will need a solution.

Well, hopefully your situation isn't as dire as described above. It's a bit of a caricature, but you probably still need to come up with something good in a situation like that.

If you have chicken and rice I need you to stop by the grocery store on your way home. Don't worry, I won't give you a huge list. I just need you to pick up a couple of cans of coconut milk, a couple of peppers (red is good), curry powder if you don't have it already and optionally a bag of salted peanuts. Can you do that? Great!

Here's what you do (and a list of the ingredients):

Curry-Coconut Chicken

Ingredients (enough for 3-4 persons):

  • 2-3 Chicken breasts.

  • 2-3 Cups of rice.

  • 2 cans of coconut milk.

  • 2 Diced peppers (I like red).

  • 1 cup of chopped salted peanuts (optional).

  • 1 spoonful curry powder.

  • 1 spoonful of oil.

  • Salt and pepper.

Directions: One of the most important things when cooking is to get all your stuff ready before you get cracking. So, first you cut the chicken breasts in thin slices. Then you dice the peppers and finally if you're going with peanuts you chop those.

Cook the rice according to the directions on the bag. That always yields the best result.

Lightly brown the chicken slices in the oil in a pot. Add the curry. Add the peppers and fry it for an additional 2 minutes. Add the 2 cans of coconut milk and let it simmer for 5-10 minutes. Season it with salt, pepper and possibly some more curry powder.

Serve with rice and chopped peanuts sprinkled on top.

Easy. Fast. Delicious!

The lesson here is that the best solution is often simple as well. An emergency dinner like this one is not one that calls for a complicated solution. The truth is food that is simple to make often tastes better.

The alternative is ordering take out, which isn't always a bad idea, but if you really want to serve home cooked food this works very well.

How to Choose the Right Travel Accessories

How to Choose the Right Travel Accessories

How to Choose the Right Travel Accessories

By Snehal Motkar

People around the world travel for numerous reasons like business, vacation, education, etc. Regardless of the type of the trip, travel accessories do play a significant part in making any trip comfortable. It is advisable to plan for your trip well in advance to avoid discomfort and hassles while on a trip. You can begin by collecting information about the place where you are planning to go, for example, the weather, local customs and traditions of the place. You can also take into consideration the mode of traveling which can alter the choice of suitable accessories. Although, it is good to plan everything beforehand, there are situations when you just have to pack and leave. For such situations, try to take along some of the travel accessories that are enlisted in the following part to make your journey and trip convenient and comfortable.

Choosing the Right Travel Accessories

Once you are thorough with the detailing of the trip, list down the possible accessories you can pick up. Here are a few common but, essential accessories for a travel trip.

Travel Bags

A travel bag is the most important travel accessory as it offers you a convenient and safe storage place for certain essentials, accessories and precious belongings. It also offers you extra space to accommodate stuff that you buy at your destination. No single travel bag can be suitable for all types of trips. There are various types of bags suitable for different travel occasions.

A Duffel bag is suitable for short trips where you can carry the duffel bag on your shoulders or carry it in your hands conveniently. Another noticeable feature of this bag is that wheels can be attached to it making it convenient for transportation.

If you plan to go on a trek or camping, you should go for a Back pack. Once you put it on your back, you are ready to move along the tough path. These travel bags are rough and tough and are more durable. Mostly, the people who leave their house with a plan of staying out for a few weekends but, actually take months to return should opt for a back pack.

A Rolling suitcase, a suitcase with wheels and often called a trolley bag in some parts of the world, is the best option for a holiday trip where you have a lot of things to be packed. These suitcases are also beneficial when you are on a vacation where you want to visit so many places but, do not have to carry your luggage all the time. In such a situation you can keep your luggage in the hotel room in large rolling suitcases and move around with ease carrying just the handbags. And, even if you have to carry your luggage from place to place you can just drag these suitcases conveniently. There are even rolling briefcases available for short trips and you should know how to choose a rolling briefcase or you might end up choosing the wrong one.

Gadgets and Plug Kits

These are fast becoming downright essential accessories for any travel because they make your trip, enjoyable, adventurous and you don't even realize how time passes away.

You can carry your digital camera which can capture both still photos as well as videos.

A laptop, though a bit heavy among the gadgets, is one of the best options while on a trip. You not only stay connected to your loved ones through email, but you can also watch movies, listen to music and even play games.

GPS (Global Positioning System) can also prove to be one of the best gadgets for a trip as you can know your exact position or geographical location at any time, any place and in any weather which can actually be a fun activity too.

The next option among travel gadgets would be noise-reducing headphones. Some people cannot sleep when there is noise around. So, they can put on these sound-proof headphones and sleep peacefully.

One more accessory for good sleep during travel is the blindfold that can block out light which is sometimes necessary for better sleep.

You might wonder why there is need for a plug kit while traveling, but, let me tell you that it is essential to have a plug kit with the converters and connectors to charge your gadgets.

Toiletries and Other Cosmetics

Toiletries help you maintain personal hygiene during your trip. The toiletry items are available in kits which are convenient to carry but, if you do not wish to spend money in buying them, you can always create your own kit at home. But again, selection of these items solely depends on the type of your trip.

For example, if you are going on a beach vacation, you will surely need sunscreen or sun tan lotion

If you are on a vacation to a cold region you will need a moisturizer or a cold cream.

Men will need their shaving kit, shampoos and other toiletries for any trip.

An insect repellent is also an essential travel accessory because no one, I am sure, would like to return ill from a trip due to a mosquito bite or any other insect for that matter.

Certain cosmetics may also be an important part of your travel accessories because they are the ones best suitable for you and you may prefer using those only.

Do no assume that you will get all the above accessories at your destination because the things you need may not be available or sometimes you may have to compromise on the brand.

First-Aid and Sewing Kit

During a journey you can encounter some unexpected problems like, an accident or similar emergencies. But, if you are ready for it, you can deal with the situation in a better way.

Suppose you have a minor headache or stomach pain you can treat it easily with the first-aid medicines or over-the-counter medication.

Or if someone gets injured by accident you can help him out or at least stop the blood flow from the wound which is the most important thing to do in case of an accident.

You can face a situation where one of your favorite dresses gets stuck somewhere and gets torn. What do you do at such time? A sewing kit in your bag will help you to solve the problem. You can temporarily sew the torn area and later when you return give it a permanent stitch.

A sewing kit can be beneficial for any kind of a trip because any time your clothes may need repairing, regardless of the type of the trip.

Some Other Must-Have Travel Accessories

It is highly possible that while paying attention to the major accessories we tend to overlook these minor but important accessories given below.

An alarm clock, a water bottle, a compass and a headlamp are some accessories you must take along on a trek or a camping trip where you may have to stay outdoors and might not have access to the above needful things.

A portable clothes iron can prove helpful when you are on a business trip. How? You realize a few minutes before an important meeting that your suit needs to be ironed urgently. At that time you can use the iron that you have carried with you without fail.

Wherever you go, the safety of your luggage can be a major concern and you should take necessary efforts to secure it from theft or a loss. Hence, you can use locks that are approved by TSA (Transportation Security Administration) for assured safety and convenient security checks at airports.

Books can be one of the best travel accessories because they take you to a different world keeping you from getting bored during long delays or stopovers, provided you have a passion for reading. There are other books like destination guides or translation books or maps that serve as essential travel accessories.

You can If you spend some time in visualizing your needs and think of other useful accessories as per your requirement and convenience. On a concluding note, I would like to suggest that you should always choose travel wallets and folders where you can keep your important belongings like money, travel documents, passports, prescription medicines safely.

How to Build a Wardrobe (That You Love!)

How to Build a Wardrobe (That You Love!)

How to Build a Wardrobe (That You Love!)

By Michele Little

One of the basic tenets I teach my clients is how to build a wardrobe. I'm not talking about just amassing a closet filled with clothes, bought at random intervals on a whim. By 'building' a wardrobe I mean consciously choosing the clothing that's right for you from all angles and that works well together to create multiple outfits. But I go a step further and encourage them to build a wardrobe that they truly love!

While you could easily go out and spend half your salary on clothing, if it doesn't work for your body type, your coloring or your lifestyle, then it's not going to serve you and, essentially, is money down the drain. The key is buying items that fit you to perfection, flatter your coloring and work for you day in and day out. To build a wardrobe that is going to serve you for years to come, rather than just for the next week, follow these strategic tips and see how much more mileage you'll get from what you already own:

1/ Identify your needs. If you have recently changed careers (or just daily duties), have new considerations (such as arthritis that prevents you from fussing with buttons, etc), or have moved to a different climate, your needs will be different than they have been in years past. Ask yourself what will serve you right now and focus on what will help you to look great every day for the next few months.

2/ Discover your coloring and your body type. Find the colors that bring out your haircolor, your eye color, that flatter your skintone and that make your heart sing can make you look radiant - and years younger! When you dress for the body you have right now it will flatter you no matter what your size, so embrace where you are in this moment and dress for it. It's magical!

3/ Assess what you already own. Go through your closet and purge anything that doesn't fit, isn't flattering or that you don't love.Take stock of what is and ask yourself what you could bring in to make 'new' outfits with it. It could be a fabulous pair of jeans, a few new cardigans, print tops, a new suit...whatever it is that works for your lifestyle and your personal attributes will work to help you look great day after day.

4/ Plan your strategy. As you can see, shopping is not at the top of the list when it comes to building your wardrobe. It's a process and a strategy that begins not in the middle of a clearance sale, but by reflecting on what will make you feel like the fabulous, amazing woman you already are!

What items would take what you already own and bring it to a whole new level? What do you feel you're missing from your closet? What would make you happy to put on each day? These are the items I want you to write down. Group them into two categories:

a/ Core items - Items in your least memorable colors that will be the foundation for many outfits for months to come. Think dark denim, brown trousers, a gray skirt, a white shirt... You'll get a lot of mileage out of these items so this is where you'll invest the bulk of your budget.

b/ Accent Items - These are where you bring in your own personality with color, print and texture. These items will be more memorable and won't be worn quite as much, but are just as important as core items because they keep your look interesting.

c/ Accessories - Never underestimate the power of accessories. You should plan to spend at least 20% of your budget on accessories. They can make or break an outfit and take it to new heights. Think shoes, scarves, handbags, jewelry and belts. Create accessories 'capsules' that bring together multiple items with a similar feel that can be worn together to create a fabulous look.

5/ Manage your wardrobe - Both before and after you shop you'll want to keep track of what you have. Avoid buying something unless you know you have at least 3 items already that it will go with. Smart phone apps and online programs will help you keep this in check:

1. Wardrobe Manager

2. Outfit Diary

3. Pocket Closet

4. TouchCloset

Also, manage your wardrobe online with these apps:

1. Closet Couture

2. HomyFads

When you begin to view your wardrobe as an investment that is meant to last you for the long haul, put in the time, effort and energy required to keep it looking great and ensure you have everything you need, getting dressed will indeed become easy, effortless and, dare I say, fun! So take some time to invest in yourself and build your wardrobe and you'll reap the benefits for years to come.

Silk Hydrangeas: Five Ways to Use Them In Your Interior Design

Silk Hydrangeas: Five Ways to Use Them In Your Interior Design

Silk Hydrangeas: Five Ways to Use Them In Your Interior Design

By Jane Alexander Ogilvie

Should you use silk flowers as part of your interior design scheme? These days, many designers say 'yes'; the image of fake plants and flowers has changed and, as is often the case, the name has changed with it. We no longer shop for mere silk flowers, these days we look for permanent botanicals. Costs vary considerably. Should you buy only the best, or will inexpensive artificial flowers be good enough? A mistake could ruin the look of your carefully co-ordinated interior.

Decorators are becoming more and more aware of the power of 'permanent botanicals' when it comes to creating just the right environment for their clients. These modern silk flowers and plants are artificial in the best way; they don't drop leaves or flowers, they don't leave pollen or water marks on furniture, and they don't attract insects or cause allergies. Unlike real plants, the silk variety don't poison pets, require maintenance or die from lack of light, but they do come in a huge variety of colors, textures and sizes, ready to decorate just about anything.

So given that silk flowers are ideal for your interior, which ones should you use, and where?

Exotic orchids have become very popular, but while these look great in pots, with artificial roots and leaves, they don't have the 'freshly picked' look. For this, the most versatile plant is the silk hydrangea. Easy to find in a huge range of colors, artificial hydrangeas are perfect for a large number of decorative styles.

  1. For a cottage look, go with pale to medium pink hydrangeas, or a mixture of pink and blue. Huge mopheads have the best effect, but if your room is small, go for the slightly more expensive lace caps. The truly realistic varieties are usually labelled 'real touch' or 'handwrapped'. The price may appear puzzling but can depend on the length of the stem, so if you plan to use them in a short vase, you don't need the most expensive kind.

  2. For a beach house or nautical decor, you can't do better than blue hydrangeas, or a combination of blue mopheads with white lace-caps, to give the effect of sea and spray. Team both with artificial thistles for a slightly wild look, add them to a glass vase and fill the base with small shells.

  3. For today's 'shabby chic' interiors choose almost any silk hydrangea, but go for quantity. If the arrangement is on a high shelf you can economize by buying silk flowers described as 'bushes'; where many flowers are wired into a single stem. Choose those with the most color variation as these will look most realistic.

  4. For a sophisticated dining room, choose huge white hydrangeas and mix them with their foliage in a footed bowl or urn. Since these will be quite close to your guests this is the place for the best faux hydrangeas you can afford. If you'd prefer a multi-floral arrangement you'll find many available; you can economise by choosing a mixed flower 'bouquet'. The stems may be taped or wired together but you can easily take them apart and bend the stems as you need, or wire two or more together for a more spectacular display.

  5. For a traditional style interior, choose silk hydrangeas which have been made to mimic the dried variety. These come in wonderful antique shades such as green and chocolate brown, ideal for Fall in any interior.

Hydrangeas are not exotic flowers; they're not rare in any way, but they do have something other plants like orchids lack. They have charm, and charm is what you need to turn a house into a home.

Visit our website where you can read more about silk hydrangeas and how to create beautiful silk hydrangea centerpieces for dinner parties.

Five Easy Travel Dresses for Fall

Five Easy Travel Dresses for Fall

Five Easy Travel Dresses for Fall

By Renae Virata

Even the most die-hard dress haters have to admit: Nothing is easier to wear and to pack than a reliable and stylish dress. Dressed up or down, the right dress in the right fabric and color goes from day to night with just a switch of accessories and (pending the swing in weather throughout the day) some strategic layering. Here are our five travel dress picks for any Travelista out there!

1. The Sweater Dress

Our top pick this fall for a great travel dress. We love the criss-cross action on the front and the simple lines of this piece. Look for something in a light knit that can easily be layered under a coat or over leggings/tights and boots. Add some panache with printed tights or a cool fall hat. If you opt for a dressier look, make sure you do a fall/winter wedge or a stacked heel to match the weight of the dress (read: dainty shoes won't work with this look!).

2. A Layerable Shift

Keeping it simple is key when you travel. A shift dress is just that easy piece! Layer over a slim long-sleeve tee and boots for a casual look, slip under a blazer for work with pumps, or leave it bare with just sandals and a luscious statement necklace for a night out on the town.

3. Long-sleeve Knit Dress

If you have to step off sexy for an immediate date or happy hour, nothing works better than a simple long-sleeve knit dress. In a solid or print, it's comfortable on the plane and versatile for a variety of activities. Belt a long cardigan over it with ankle boots and tights for a cozy look, a simple jacket for work (make sure it covers your derriere!), and simply with a statement necklace, statement earrings or a fur vest and heels for dinner.

4. The Cotton Tee Dress

Talk about easy! This will be your favorite dress, travel or not! Easy on the plane with leggings and flats and a denim jacket. Wear with a cozy cardigan, colored tights and black booties for a chic London fall look. Tuck into a pencil skirt and wear your favorite moto-blazer for a cool work look. Wear alone with a long black vest, tights, and wedge heels when grabbing drinks. The possibilities are endless!

5. The Jersey Wrap Dress

The no-fail dress for traveling: Virtually wrinkle-free, easy movement, comfy as a blanket, and super easy to wear. Great for work, play, and everything in between. Layer under a cozy cardi with boots, wear with heels for work or drinks, add a turtleneck and scarf for extra warmth. To change it up a bit, add a thick leather belt.

Tips For Dressing Classy

Tips For Dressing Classy

Tips For Dressing Classy

By Mel Chan

Dressing classy is simple. However, you need to know your own body shape before you can flatter it. Body shapes are classified into; straight, pear, spoon, hourglass, inverted triangle, oval and diamond.

If you have a straight body, it means that your bust and hips are basically the same size. Your waist is slightly smaller than the bust and hips. If you have a pear-body shape, it just means that your hips are larger than the bust and your waist gradually slopes out to the hips. A spoon shape body would mean that your hips are larger than the bust and is defined. Your waist is slightly smaller than the bust. If your body is shaped like an hourglass, it means that your bust and hips are about the same size and has a well define waist. However, if your bust is larger than your hips and have a defined waist, this would mean that you have a top hourglass body. An inverted triangle body would mean large bust, narrow hips and not a very well define waist. You are considered having an oval body if your waist is larger than the bust and hips. Your hips are narrower than your shoulders and breast are ample in size. Lastly, the diamond body is ne where the waist is larger than the bust and hips. Shoulders are narrower than the hips and the breasts are small to medium in size. So, what exactly is your body shape?

To dress a straight body, you need to proportionally dress the top and bottom of your body while enhancing your waist. Tops and bottoms that will add curves and create a more define waist for you will be good. To dress a pear-body, you need to enhance and add volume to your upper body while enhancing your waist and de-emphasizing your lower body.

Dressing a spoon body needs to draw attention to your upper body and de-emphasize your tummy and hips. Tops that can help to balance your lower half while camouflaging any tummy bulges and bottoms that will minimize your lower half will be great. You are lucky to have an hourglass body. The great way to show off your body is use wide belts over shirts and dresses. The key to dress a top hourglass body is to balance your body with ample bust while accentuating your enviable waist. If you have an inverted triangle body, look for tops with narrow V-necks, wrap-styled, tailored shirts and jackets, A-line skirts, cargo pants, boot-cut or slightly flared legs bottoms and so on. Oval body should look for tops that will taper your upper body. If you have a diamond shape body, you should create a more defined waist and accentuate your shoulders and bust.

Now with your body shape in mind, dressing classy is easy as there are just a handful of basic tips when picking what you wear. Black is one of the colors to achieve a classy style. Of course other colors are possible too but you have to be more cautious with the design. Simple design usually looks classier than a complicated one. Remember to go for an understated style of clothing. This means nothing flashy that shows a lot of your skin. For example, an outfit that shows a lot of cleavage or an outfit that is too short is definitely not classy. Simple, understated pieces of jewelry can be used to enhance your outfit but do not overwhelm it.

Ladies, What Does the Colour of Your Laptop Bag Say About You?

Ladies, What Does the Colour of Your Laptop Bag Say About You?

Ladies, What Does the Colour of Your Laptop Bag Say About You?

By Hannah Kitchener

Do you always find yourself drawn to the same colour bags? Well, your penchant for a particular colour may just reveal a side of your personality you weren't aware you were displaying. So what does the colour of your laptop say about you?

Black is the most common colour for a laptop bag but that doesn't necessarily mean that black laptop bags are boring. Black is often associated with power and sophistication and can look very stylish indeed. However, it can also be associated with sadness and loneliness so if you're feeling a bit down at work, it may be time to boost your spirits with a new brightly-coloured bag. Remember, when it comes to black laptop bags, design and texture are the key factors in determining whether your laptop carrier is a chic powerhouse or a desperate cry for help.

This ladies' black leather business bag from Kenneth Brownne is well ahead in the style stakes. The satchel style makes it right on trend while the soft, high-shine Italian leather lends it a sleek and luxurious finish. Even in classic black, this Kenneth Brownne laptop case is sure to turn a few heads.

Brown

Like black, brown is another common laptop bag colour. Brown is typically associated with stability, endurance, justice, integrity and concentration. As a result, women who prefer to carry a brown laptop bag are usually well-grounded and fair-minded individuals whose hard work, determination and good judgement can be relied on to see a job through. If you are looking to prove to your boss that you are sensible and reliable enough to handle more responsibility at work, then a brown laptop carrier may just help you get that promotion!

Red

Suffering from a lack of confidence at work? A red leather business bag may be just what you need. Red is a colour that has long been associated with passion, strength and courage and so women who carry red business bags certainly mean business. Women drawn to red laptop bags are typically ambitious, determined to succeed and are genuinely passionate about their jobs. They cope well under pressure and are not afraid to take risks, which due to their energy and dedication usually pay off.

Orange

Orange is an unusual colour for a laptop carrier but creates a very positive image of the woman who carries it. Like red, orange is a high energy colour. It has associations of courage, pride, ambition, enthusiasm, creativity, friendship, communication, success and opportunity. Women who carry orange bags are typically very popular and make excellent net workers and team players. They are excellent communicators with warm and friendly personalities who easily form good relationships with those around them. Orange fans take a lot of pride in their work and are very keen to succeed, often coming up with unusual and creative solutions to problems. Their optimism also gives them the courage to take every opportunity that comes their way. All in all, the combination of these qualities makes them very successful in life.

Green

Feeling entrepreneurial? A green leather laptop bag might well give you the boost you need to be successful in business. Green has obvious associations with nature which may have a subconscious effect on others if you are trying to convince them of your concern for the environment. More importantly, however, green is the colour of growth, luck and prosperity and a green laptop bag may just be your new lucky charm at work.

Turquoise

With a turquoise laptop bag, you're a breath of fresh air. Turquoise is a cool but vibrant colour that is associated with intelligence, creativity, honour and discipline. Women who feel drawn to this colour have bright, agile minds and weigh up all possibilities before making a decision. They are constantly coming up with innovative ideas that are measured and achievable.

How To Make French Toast In Five Minutes Or Less

How To Make French Toast In Five Minutes or Less

Author: Matt LeClair

Need a quick, easy, and delicious recipe to satisfy your family's hunger? French toast is one of the simplest dishes to make that also requires very little preparation time. Here is a step by step guide to making French Toast in five minutes or less.

Gather Ingredients - 30 Seconds

While you are gathering your ingredients, preheat a 10 or 12 inch skillet over medium heat so it is ready when you're ready to begin cooking. Don't worry about spraying the pan with cooking spray or adding butter to it, the egg will provide enough coating for the heating surface.

The first thing you need to do is gather up your ingredients. For this recipe we're going to keep it super simple.

All you need is your bread which can be any kind of bread that you prefer. We suggest a nice whole grain bread since it provides loads of nutrients and is healthier than starch filled white breads.

Next, you'll need 4 to 6 jumbo eggs. You can use or more or less eggs depending on how many people you expect to be serving. Typically you want to plan on having 2 eggs per person. This will provide you with enough egg batter for 1 to 2 pieces of French Toast per person.

Finally, add the cinnamon to your ingredients. You'll want to sprinkle enough cinnamon into the egg batter to cover the top with a thin layer. You'll eventually mix it all together, but this gives you a good visual representation of how much cinnamon you are going to use.

Mix Egg Batter - 30 Seconds

Once you have the ingredients gathered up, then the next step will be to beat the eggs and add cinnamon to the batter. You can use a fork, wire whisk, hand mixer, or any other common kitchen tool or appliance to beat the eggs into a smooth and consistent batter.

When the eggs have been beaten and the consistency of the batter is where you prefer it, then you can add the cinnamon. Sprinkle enough cinnamon into the batter so that the entire surface of the mixture is covered with a thin layer of cinnamon seasoning. Add more if you prefer to have a stronger cinnamon taste. You can add less if you prefer not to have as much.

Cook The French Toast - 3 to 4 Minutes

The final step of the process is the step that takes the longest, which involves cooking the French Toast to your liking. Take one piece of bread and lay it flat into the batter. Dip it into the batter once or twice with a fork or other kitchen utensil, then flip it over and repeat this step for the other side of the piece of bread. When you are confident the bread is coated with enough egg batter, place it in the pan and cook on each side for roughly one minute.

Repeat this step for each piece of bread that you plan on using. You can cook multiple pieces of bread at once in order to save time. When your French Toast is complete, serve with maple syrup, sugar, whip cream, or whatever topping that you would like. Enjoy!

Looking Cool with a Cosmo

Looking Cool with a Cosmo

Author: amoretti

When it first appeared on the cocktail scene back in the 80's, the cosmopolitan was soon literally on everyone's lips. It heralded in something that was previously unknown in the world of cocktails; a drink that has not disappeared into obscurity before becoming popular again. That's not to say it hasn't waxed and waned in popularity; it has. But it has shown more endurance than other specialty cocktails.

The actual inventor of the cosmopolitan recipe is one that is hotly disputed, with the commonly accepted inventor Cheryl Cook claiming to have invented it in 1985. However, her recipe calls specifically for Absolut Citron vodka, which was not available until 1988, thus throwing the entire story and existence of Cook into question. John Caine of San Francisco could be considered the father of the cosmo, as he was serving drinks with vodka, triple sec, lime, and cranberry back in the 70's at his bars, and they spread to other preppy drinking establishments. However, even his were different from what is typically served now, as citron vodka wasn't around back then.

What is known is the cosmopolitan came about is response to the increasing numbers of bar patron who were ordering martini's just to have a martini glass in their hand or in front of them. But a martini even made from the best hand is still a harsh drink. Often there is no middle ground where its preference is concerned; people either like it or hate it. But there is a certain "cool" and "hip" factor attached to the venerable cocktail that the cosmopolitan recipe sought to take advantage of. With the new pink libation, a taste that appealed to a broad range of tastes was discovered.

The cosmopolitan itself is often lumped in with other martinis, but it bears more in common with other sours like the kamikaze. But the confusion is understandable, as it is served in a cocktail, also known as a martini glass. A quick review of a cosmopolitan recipe shows, though, that it's closer to a kamikaze than a martini.

You take two parts vodka, citron flavor for a true cosmopolitan, with one part triple sec, the juice of half a lime, and one part cranberry juice. The cranberry juice is meant more for coloring, and if correctly made, shouldn't dilute or impart a strong flavor on the drink. Like the color of pink lemonade. A martini always has vermouth…

Other variations on the cosmopolitan recipe uses Cointreau instead of triple sec. The peach cosmopolitan uses peach schnapps instead of the triple sec, and peach juice instead of the cranberry. Sort of like a high class fuzzy navel…

However or why one enjoys a cosmopolitan, it is one that can be enjoyed by most that would enjoy a good cocktail. And there is no getting around that since it is served in a martini glass, it does give off the martini vibe without having you potentially gag down your drink. Whether made by the skillful hand of a good bartender, or from a high quality drink mix, the cosmopolitan is a drink that will enjoy widespread popularity for a long time.
