The Illusion of a Relationship

The Illusion of a Relationship

The Illusion of a Relationship
By Lieven Verbrugge

It doesn't matter if it is with the one you love, your boss, your employee or anyone else, sometimes the relationships you have are not what they seem. You could be connected with those among us that are incredibly self-centered and because of that, they are not capable of having a healthy two-way relationship. You give them your time, your energy, your commitment, your love, your creativity and all the other things that make you so valuable as a person, but in return you don't really receive anything back.
Instead these self-absorbed people with typical narcissistic personality traits will even change the way you feel, think and act. They will make sure that whatever it is that you do, it is not enough. Their subtle way of manipulation will let you assume a role that will meet their needs. It's that charismatic boss that has in some way "convinced" you that it is a privilege that you can work for him. So you have taken it for granted to work weekends and nights without any form of recognition. Or you are stuck in a relationship with a partner who feels entitled to be the center of attention all the time and if things don't go his/her way then "big drama's" are the result. Or it's this employee that steals your ideas and claims credit for it and knows how to influence your boss so she increases her chances for a promotion. What they all have in common is that they make your life miserable. What is sad to see is that many people who are in such a situation suffer in silence, lose control of the situation and can't really make sense of what's happening. If you think you are in such a situation or if you think you attract these kind of people, then here are some rules of thumb that I like to share with you:
1. Think twice when people are charming to you
Charm has at least two version. Real charm and "psychopathic charm". The later one is just a way to attract you so that you can be manipulated. Many people with narcissist traits can be very charming with just one goal, to let you do whatever it is that they want you to do.
2. Stop blaming yourself
I frequently observe that people think that if only they could change somehow and become more like the other person wants them to be, things would be so much better. In a normal and healthy two-way relationship this could be true. However in a relationship with a manipulative and self-centered person these thoughts are most probably a result of that manipulation. He or she got into your head and you start to apply his/her manipulative way of reasoning when evaluating yourself.
3. Be aware of splitting behavior
People who are in a one-way relationship, meaning they give so much but they don't get anything in return, often feel insecure. One of the reasons for it is that the manipulative other (to who they give so much) uses what is called splitting as a means to control you. Splitting is a way of "black-and-white" thinking. One week you are this talented employee or this wonderful and caring parent and the next moment you are described as the negative opposite of it. Sometimes they say it in your face but often, since they can be very subtle in their approach, they will just let you feel it. For example you discover their change of opinion because he said something about you during a conversation with a third person and that third person would mention something about it while talking with you. One moment you are hero the next moment you are zero. So no wonder people would start to feel insecure. Therefore when you frequently observe splitting behavior, regardless of how charismatic or powerful or wonderful that other person is, try to get (and stay) away from them.
4. They are not empathetic
Another characteristic of people who are very self-centered and extremely manipulative is that they pretend to be empathetic. They would listen to what you have to say (a story about your recent holidays, about your childhood, about why you won the project with a difficult client etc.) and would even comment on it as if they were really interested and happy for you. When this happens please remember that empathy is all about understanding and sharing the feelings of another. People with a narcissist personality are so self-centered that THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT OTHERS. The so-called empathy that they show (if they show it at all) is merely functional. It's a method to make you like them. And it is often a method to know more about you so it is easier to manipulate you. The basic principle to remember about narcissists is that they never put the needs of other people (or the goals of the company they work for) in front of their own needs.
5. Be aware of double messages
Manipulative people often use what we call "double messages" when communicating with people they want to control. It's the man who says "Of course I love you" while yelling at his partner. It's the business leader who says he cares about his employees and then fires them the next day without warning. It's the employee who says she understands and is committed to the objectives of the project, but deliberately does everything to sabotage the work of the other project team members. What all these situations have in common is that there is an important difference (a contradiction even) between what these people are saying and what they are doing. Those who are unaware that they receive double messages, are easily to be controlled by it. The receiver of these messages often tries to make sense of it which takes time and energy (often even keep them awake at night). Therefore it is important to understand that trying to make sense of a double message is an impossibility. It's much more effective to recognize that you are confronted with a double message and to realize that in such cases the responsibility to make sense of it lays at the side of the sender and not the receiver.
6. Realize why they are as they are
There are a lot of psychological studies on "manipulative behavior". Many of these studies look at people with strong narcissistic traits or people with a full blown narcissistic personality disorders. Although there are different theories about why people develop such traits there are two things that I find very compelling. The first thing is that there is no indication that there would be a genetic predisposition. So it's more likely that people develop narcissistic traits or a narcissist personality. The second thing is that many studies suggest that people become narcissists because they try to compensate for feelings of inferiority. It is typical for a narcissist that he overcompensates by overachieving. Although they appear to be grandiose, they are insecure, envious of other's achievements and unable to really care for or love others. In everything they do it seems that the underlying message they want to give is: "Look how fantastic and successful I am." They are obsessed with achieving financial success, with having the most attractive partner, with having the best car, the best career, etc. All means to achieve their goals are fine and when they have "success" they will exaggerate the importance of it. Because they are unable to have any empathy for other people they often behave inappropriate which causes inconvenience and annoyance to others.
7. Respect yourself and live your life (and stop living their life).
If you have a relationship (professionally or privately) with a highly manipulative and self-centered person the chances are high that your life gradually evolve all around them. As a result people often start to lose their self-respect. With that I mean that they don't take care of themselves anymore. They work too hard, they sleep too little, they only do what the other wants them to do, they betray their own values, they spend way to little time with their family and/or friends, etc. It is like they efface their own needs to the advantage of the needs of the narcissist. Often people are taken in by the charisma, charm and seemingly high self-confidence of a narcissist and therefore it is easy to be in denial about their situation.
It is however important to recognize the narcissist for who he really is. This will give you a better position to evaluate him/her and to realize what is missing for you in that relationship. A narcissist will never give you real credit for what you did, regardless of how essential or important the things that you have done for him or her are. It is important to regain your self-respect and to start living your own life again. Take care of yourself again. Get a person you can trust and is wise enough to give you advice on how to deal with these kind of people. Make sure that you network as much as you can so that you are not solely depend on the narcissist but that you have a wide group of people who you interact with and that can support you professionally or privately. Remember that you are not the cause of the narcissist behavior of that other person nor can you change it. Therefore there is no shame of avoiding or even leaving this person. Regardless of how famous, powerful, good-looking or successful they are, once you have taken the step to live your own life again, you will discover that it is a thousand times better to be yourself than to live in the shadow of someone who exploit others to compensate for his or her deep-rooted feeling of inferiority.

How to Become a More Confident and Attractive Woman - 3 Things You Can Do

How to Become a More Confident and Attractive Woman - 3 Things You Can Do

How to Become a More Confident and Attractive Woman - 3 Things You Can Do
By Susan Tang

Every woman wants to be attractive, regardless of age. If you are a woman, you probably agree with me.
I am not too sure if you have heard of this phrase, 'there are no ugly women, only lazy women'. So what is the meaning of this phrase? Well, it simply means every woman can be attractive, as long as she is willing to put in the effort to doll up herself.
Of course, being attractive is not all about how you look on the outside. It is also about your internal attributes, especially how confident you are about yourself. Let's put it this way. Even a plain Jane can be very attractive if she exudes an aura of confidence.
Don't believe me? Well, you can always go out there to conduct your own experiment if you wish. Just grab any ten men on the street and ask them this question, "Do you find confident women attractive?" I am sure at least 9 out of those 10 men will say they do. The one who says 'no' is probably lying or just suffering from low self esteem.
So if you want men to fall head over heels for you, start working on your confidence today. Not sure how to get started? Well, let's go through these few tips together.
1. Put on Makeup
I know I have said that being attractive is not all about your outer appearance. But let's face it. In general, people do judge a book by its cover.
So at the very least, do try to put on some makeup to make yourself more presentable, especially in professional situation. You will also feel more confident, knowing that you now look more attractive because of the makeup.
2. Dress Up
Perhaps you have heard of this saying, a woman most precious possession is her wardrobe. Well, there is certainly an element of truth in this statement.
If you want to look more attractive, you simply cannot allow yourself to dress too shabbily. From time to time, you may want to shop for new clothing.
Nowadays, buying a dress is getting more and more convenient. You can even shop online nowadays!
3. Sign Up for a Public Speaking Class
Believe it or not, public speaking is considered the number one fear by many people. Unfortunately, public speaking is something you cannot avoid if you want to progress in your career.
Since you can't avoid it, why not embrace it. Sign up for a public speaking class. You can even consider joining a Toastmaster Club. Before you know it, your public speaking skill will improve and you will find your confidence soar.
And you know what? Men will always find an eloquent woman attractive. So what are you still waiting for? Start brushing up your public speaking skills today.
How about getting some jumpsuits for women? You will be able to get them from this blogshop.

Belt It Up Girl

Belt It Up Girl

Belt It Up Girl
By Margaret A Sims

Many business and professional women over 40 abandon belts in the belief that their waistline is not as slim as it used to be.
No! No! No!
Belts are associated with youth and confidence. By wearing a belt you look younger and more confident about yourself as a professional woman. When you practise smart dressing skills, belts will always be in fashion.
Here are my modern dressing tips for business women over 40 to help you redefine the purpose and the advantages of wearing a belt.
With a belt, you can tone in or stand out.
Tone In
This is the classy position for business and professional women over 40 as it suggests confidence and style.
You tone in when you wear a plain narrow or medium belt in exactly the same shade as your top, cardigan, jacket or dress. A belt colour that is slightly darker, slightly lighter or merges in with the colours or patterns you are wearing has the same effect. Wear a narrow belt over a cardigan and only button up one or two buttons near the belt on your waist. This creates a V shape above and below your waist and is smart and slimming. Wear a narrow belt over a jacket or at the waist on any dress to look strong and confident.
A medium-sized plain belt (about 5cm or 2 inches) worn under an open cardigan, jacket or blouse shows a small part of your waist only and suggests a slimmer body shape. An alternative is to wear a plain medium-sized belt slung loosely over your waist. Let it drop slightly to create a small V shape. Worn this way, it suggests rather than emphasises your waist.
Standing out creates a feature of the belt and draws attention to wherever you have placed it. Standing out is a smart dressing skill for those who want to look strong and confident.
Stand Out a Little
A medium to large coloured belt that matches your top, vest or jacket and that has an interesting buckle blends in while the buckle draws attention to the centre of your waist only.
A belt that is a few shades lighter than the colour of your top will stand out a little. Similarly one that picks ups one of the colours in the pattern you are wearing will also stand out a little. A narrow belt will stand out less than a medium to large belt.
Fabric or plaited belts with no buckle holes look great when they are long and you let the excess hang to one side of your body. These are also great for hiding that little bit of extra weight gain. Just make sure that you do not do them up too tight because plaiting can stretch out of shape and will show where you are loosening it.
Stand Out a Lot
For those of you not afraid to draw attention to your waist whatever its size, look for belts in a contrasting colour to your top or jacket or find a belt with an interesting design or go for one in a glittery gold or silver colour.
A medium-sized belt positioned over your hips will draw attention there and take the attention away from your waist. Some business skirts come with a matching material belt. If tucking in a blouse or top is not the best look for you now, unpick the belt loops and wear the belt over your top at hip level. This works best over knits or woven tops rather than over shirts or blouses. Then use the magic of safety pins to stop the end of the belt from coming loose and flopping around.
There you have some modern dressing tips for wearing belts to make you look smart, business-like and professional.
Now go and explore in charity shops, discount shops and department stores and re-discover the magic of belts.

Polo Shirts Are A Style Statement

Polo Shirts Are A Style Statement

Polo Shirts Are A Style Statement
By Jade Jennison

Polo shirts have evolved over the years into a piece of apparel that has found a prominent place in every man's wardrobe. A change in fashion has not affected this fantastic piece of attire entirely and has become the favourite to people of different shapes and sizes. Originally, it was known as the tennis shirt and was associated with the game. The comfort of the design and the breathability of the texture used for the garment made it the official sportswear. Polo and golf players followed suit and from then on it was known as the polo shirt.
A peek into the wardrobe of a male will have the basic black and white polo shirts and maybe some blues browns and earthy tones of grey. Some add a few flamboyant shades of reds greens and yellows. Though initially it was related to sports, it has become a style statement for casual wear. Mostly made of pique cotton it helps the skin breathe and absorb sweat simultaneously. Polo shirts cannot be categorised as formal wear because of the comfort and maintenance free design making it more a casual wear category. The stretchability of the material has made it easy to wear for a longer duration.
Polo shirts can be easily teamed up with a jacket or a pullover and jeans with a pair of sneakers. The backpack of an adventure traveler or a weekend bag will definitely find a couple of polo t-shirts in it. The comfort and style designed for the free mind and the cosy body. The half sleeved, collar with front buttons is ideal for an evening hang out with friends, a weekend party or taking the dog for a walk in the park. It has become so popular that corporate are cashing in on it. They supply polo shirts with their company logo embroidered on it for sales promotions and corporate events.
The usually plain colored polo shirts come in strips, designs, exclusive ideas scripted for the people who want to send a message to the world. Women have adopted all the good clothes of men for comfort and this piece of attire is one of them. The comfort and cut of the shirt has made it popular. Nowadays, these are experimented with different textures and designs to satisfy the needs of the customer. Polo t-shirts are sported by people of all ages and cultures. The prices are reasonable and are marketed in a wide range of hues and shades giving the customer a wide choice. These are a style statement for the sporty, positive, energetic and robust man ready to enjoy life to the fullest.

A Recipe For Sweet Potato Soup

A Recipe For Sweet Potato Soup

A Recipe For Sweet Potato Soup
By Erik Christensen

Starchy vegetables have a long history of being used to make tasty and nutritious soups. Potatoes, pumpkin, butternut squash, zucchini, peas and beets are all main ingredients for soups all around the world. One of the most overlooked starchy vegetables is the sweet potato, which is a shame because it is full of flavor and goodness.
To be clear, I am talking about the sweet potato that is also sometimes referred to as a "yam". True yams are not often found in North America, but the confusion arises because there are two common varieties of sweet potato. First, there is a harder variety with a yellow interior, and a softer orange type. The orange ones that are sometimes called yams are my favorite, and they are best ones to use in this soup.
Sweet potatoes have a much more complex blend of starches and sugars, and because of this they benefit greatly from the carmelization that takes place in the roasting process. Their natural sweetness gets intensified and the overall flavor becomes richer. If it sounds like it will turn this recipe into a dessert, don't be fooled: even savory flavors get better when roasted.
To start making this soup, preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Clean two or three large sweet potatoes and poke some holes in them with a steak knife or something similar. (Don't peel them.) Place the sweet potatoes in a baking dish and roast them for about an hour or so. They'll be soft to the touch when they are done, and they will probably be leaking an orangey liquid. Let them cool, and then peel the skins off (they will come off very easily if they are done.) You can roast the sweet potatoes ahead of time and use them later, or you can start the next process when you pull them out of the oven.
The next step is to thinly slice a large onion. Heat up a small amount of butter and olive oil in your soup pot and add the onion and a bit of salt. Slowly cook the onions until they become golden brown, but don't allow them to burn. The darker the onions get, the more they are getting carmelized, just like the sweet potatoes. This will really enhance the flavor of the soup. (Note: if you like, you can add a few cloves of garlic for even more flavor.)
Chop up the cooked sweet potatoes and add them to the pot. Mash them up a little, then add about 4 cups of chicken stock, or whatever broth you prefer. Bring the soup to a boil, then reduce and cook until it reaches a desirable consistency. Use an immersion blender to puree the soup. Add up to half a cup of heavy cream, and a dash of nutmeg, and you're done!
Here are the ingredients listed again for convenience:
2-3 large sweet potatoes;
1 large onion;
1-4 cloves of garlic (if desired);
butter and/or olive oil;
salt;
4 cups chicken stock or some type of broth;
half a cup of heavy cream;
nutmeg (or try some allspice and cayenne for a spicy version)
I hope you enjoy this recipe as much as I do!

Easter Holidays - 10 Places to Visit This Spring

Easter Holidays - 10 Places to Visit This Spring

Easter Holidays - 10 Places to Visit This Spring
By Wendy Kaufmann

With just a couple of weeks to go until the biggest chocolate fest of the year, many of us will be spending this weekend searching for that last-minute Easter holiday.
Whether you fancy somewhere hot and sunny, or cold and ski worthy, there are numerous destinations coming to life at this time of year, and so to give you a little bit of inspiration we thought we would share our top 10 ideas for Easter holidays in 2012.
Skiing in Austria
Yes, we are biased, but Austria is just beautiful right now and if you want to combine beautiful scenery and great skiing with even better aprs skiing, you will struggle to find a better place than the Austrian Alps! The weather is warm and sunny, the slopes are perfect, and as always, the Austrian hospitality is the best in Europe - Willkommen!
City Tour of London
If you fancy a city break in Europe this Easter, head over to good old Blighty and enjoy the sights and sounds of London. A beautiful city that combines old English charm with the modern twists of a multi-cultural society, London is a great city to visit in spring, and a lot less hectic than it will be once the Olympics arrive in July!
Sunshine in Algarve, Portugal
A great time of year to head south in search of sunshine, why not take your Easter holiday in the Algarve this year? Warm, sunny and just a short hop for those of us living in Europe, Portugal is a great destination to visit and we just love Vilamoura in the Algarve.
Beaches of Miami, Florida
If you fancy heading off over the Atlantic, why not treat yourself to a week of fun in Miami where great beaches, warm sunshine and lively nightlife come as standard. A great destination for those who love the US and it is a mere 8-hour flight from London.
Take a Cruise
If you have never taken a cruise before, this Easter could be the perfect opportunity to do so. Taking advantage of the last-minute deals, you can cruise the Mediterranean, the Caribbean or even the Pacific Ocean - the world, as they say, is your oyster!
Safari in South Africa
Taking a safari in South Africa is one of the best experiences of my life to date, and it costs far less than neighbouring Botswana. With daily flights to Cape Town or Johannesburg you can be in the Kruger Park in no time, or for a Malaria free safari you can head on down to the Eastern Cape, a mere hop from Cape Town.
Wine Tasting in Australia
It may be a long way to go for an Easter break, but Australia is a great place to visit at any time of the year, and if you enjoy New World Wines, you will love the Yarra Valley close to Melbourne or Margaret River south of Perth. Combining beautiful scenery, with stunning vineyards and great wines, Australia is well worth the journey.
Adventure Holiday in New Zealand
Again, New Zealand is a long way to go (especially for us Europeans), but if you are looking for some adventure this Easter, you will find numerous thrill seeking activities waiting for you in NZ, from white water rafting in Queenstown, to bungee jumping in Auckland.
Samba in Rio de Janeiro
Brazil is a popular destination for those looking for spring sunshine, and if you would like to do something different this Easter, such as learning to Samba, then Rio de Janeiro is the place you should be heading to.
Destination unknown
If you really cannot decide where to go or what to do this Easter, ditch the chocolate bunnies and Easter eggs, pack a small bag, grab your passport and credit card and head off to the airport. Jump on the first plane that becomes available and head off into the unknown - it might not be something everyone would consider, but it will certainly make Easter 2012 memorable!

Your Guide to Face Mask Recipes for 5 Common Skin Problems

Your Guide to Face Mask Recipes for 5 Common Skin Problems

Your Guide to Face Mask Recipes for 5 Common Skin Problems
By Emma Arrington

Are your store-bought beauty lotions and creams not effective? It can be annoying when you put in hard-earned money to purchase them and yet you never see the results you want.
In this article, you'll learn how to use common and basic ingredients found in your kitchen to make your own simple facial masks and scrubs! Making your own beauty products can also help to keep harmful synthetics and chemicals off your skin. The natural recipes will be aimed at the top five most typical skin issues.
1. Dry skin
Consistent sun exposure and tanning will result in dry skin. Aside from minimizing sun exposure, try using a mask that will boost your skin's moisture content levels. You will see an almost immediate difference after using it.
Try this mayonnaise and baby oil recipe that promises to hydrate your skin. Combine 2 tablespoons of mayonnaise with 1 teaspoon of baby oil. Smooth the mixture onto your face, jaw line and neck. Leave it on for 20 minutes and rinse off with tepid water after.
2. Uneven skin tone
If you want your sun spots to be greatly reduced and have supple skin, this lemon and egg white mask will help you achieve it. Beat the egg white and 2 to 3 ml of lemon juice for 3 minutes. Apply it directly on your face, avoiding the eye area. Rinse off after 30 minutes.
3. Oily skin
If you have oily skin, a twice weekly face mask can help clear your pores and take out excess sebum and skin impurities, preventing future breakouts.
Here's a simple carrot and buttermilk recipe that can help neutralize your skin. You need 2 tablespoons of fresh carrot juice and 2 tablespoons of powdered buttermilk. Mix them until a paste consistency is achieved and spread evenly on your face. Remove by rinsing off with warm water after 15 minutes.
4. Dead skin cells
This face mask will have you manually remove your face's dead skin cells build-up using 4 pineapple chunks and 3 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil. The olive oil is rich in vitamin E which will renew your skin's youthful glow. Blend the ingredients into a smooth paste and leave it on your face for 15 minutes.
5. Face blemishes
Blemishes on the face are becoming increasingly common in recent years amongst people, especially ladies. Hormonal changes, stress and excessive sun exposure can cause and develop blemishes.
This papaya and honey face mask recipe promises to reduce those blemishes and spots. Simply blend 2 tablespoons of honey and half a cup of mashed ripe papaya into a paste. Leave the mixture on your skin for up to 20 minutes before rinsing off.
As with any natural skin treatment and mask, don't expect instantaneous results. Be sure that you incorporate these recipes you've learned into your routine and apply them regularly to achieve the healthy, glowing skin you want.

Feeling Overwhelmed and Stressed? 12 Ideas to Fix the Pressure

Feeling Overwhelmed and Stressed? 12 Ideas to Fix the Pressure

Author: Larry L. Taylor

Stress can happen because of a lot of different things that we have to deal with daily. Sometimes it can be difficult to figure out why stress exists and what triggers it, and it can be hard to find ways to relieve yourself of it. This article can help you learn how to deal with your stressful situations. Stop feeling overwhelmed and stressed; fix the pressure and relax.  Here is how.
1.       If you have problems with a particular class, a tutor can be very helpful. A tutor will be there to help you understand the material better so you don't feel stressed when you have to take an exam. Being prepared is the best feeling you can have on test day and it is important to feel that way if you do not want to be anxious.
2.       Be sure to inform all the people in your inner circle that your stress has nothing to do with them. Surrounding family members often feel responsible for contributing to your stress, most especially children. Deal with stress on your own, and be sure you never blame it on others.
3.       Smile more, and you will feel naturally less stressed. When smiling, the muscles used trigger your limbic system, your emotional center that is located in the brain. Smiling will tilt your limbic system to a calmer state, which is a great way to lower your stress levels.
4.       Don't use the word "stress" so much. If you keep telling yourself you are very hungry, before long you will be famished and the same is true for feeling stressed. Find another way to look at your situation. If you keep using the word stress, you will end up making it worse.
5.       Stress can relieved with the help of pets. There is research that indicates that simply petting an pet for a couple of minutes lowers stress levels.
6.       One great way to relieve stress and feel great is to take a long, relaxing bath. Try some of the many wonderful scented soaps or oils available that can add a touch of luxury to your bath Read a book or listen to soothing music. You can recharge your mind and body and let your stress drain away when you indulge yourself in a long, hot bath.
7.       Always make sure you take a moment for yourself every day. It can be as simple as enjoying a cup of joe, or reading a book you love. It just needs to be something that lets you fight the stress and calm down.
8.       A simple and easy way to reduce stress is to smile. People smile naturally when they are cheerful and calm, and if you force yourself to smile, you will actually start to feel like that, too. Force yourself to smile and you will feel better after a while. Smiling in the midst of a stressful period can really help you relax and unwind.
9.       Make sure you are organized in all aspects of your life if you would like to reduce your stress levels. Perhaps your stress comes from procrastinating or simply forgetting about what you need to do. Stay organized; your stress level will decrease when you feel in control.
10.   An excellent method of calming down when you have a stressful day is to do a special act for another person. Consider buying a little treat or toy for your child, or surprising your partner with their favorite meal. By placing your focus on someone else, you draw attention away from your own stress.
11.   Single out your main sources of tension, and find ways to minimize or eliminate your exposure to it. For example, you may have a friend that consistently drains with their negativity. You may benefit from limiting your exposure to this negative influence. Cutting out the stress factors in your life can improve your physical and emotional health.
12.   When managing stress, it is vital that you also understand how to control your anger. Anger can be damaging to your body, so it is very important to remain calm even when you have feelings of anger. In order to keep your stress from getting the best of you, it can be extremely helpful to learn some strategies for managing your anger in a healthy way.
Feeling overwhelmed and stressed is not pleasant, and it can do long term damage to your health. However, when you implement the ideas you've learned in this article, you will be able to better manage any stress that life has to offer.

Six Men's Suit Mistakes to Avoid

Six Men's Suit Mistakes to Avoid

Author: Magnus

When you walk into a room, all eyes turn to you. You are perceived as intelligent, authoritative, and professional by everyone who sees you. All the ladies want your ear, and all the men want to be you.
Such is the power of men's suits.
That is, when you wear them correctly. The right suit can make you or break you. It can help you obtain the employment you want, look fashionable for the girl of your dreams, and boost your self confidence. Obtaining all of these benefits isn't easy for everyone, though. Many men just don't know how to wear their suits correctly.
Mistakes to Avoid With Men's Suits
There are several mistakes men often make when wearing men's suits. Often, problems arise not because men are not smart enough to pull off the look, but because they don't know any better. If this sounds like you, consider the following.
  • Suit Sleeves Are Too Long- One of the most aggravating concepts for you to understand might be how long your suit sleeves should be. Many fashion gurus will provide a wide range of advice on the subject, most likely leaving you confused. The answer to your question is simple and short, however: your suit sleeves should always end at your wrist bone when your arms are resting at your sides.
  • Too Much Shirt/Too Little Shirt- Once you have established the correct length for your suit sleeves, the next step is to take a look at how you are wearing your dress shirt. When you are wearing a single cuffed dress shirt, your shirt sleeve should extend past your suit sleeve 1.3 cm when your arms are at rest by your side. When wearing a double cuffed shirt, your shirt sleeves can extend a little longer past your suit sleeves, showing approximately 2 cm.
  • Fastening The Wrong Buttons- You may not know it yet, but you might be fastening the wrong buttons on your suit. On a two button suit, only fasten the top button. For three button suits, the middle button, or if you are more confident, the top and middle buttons should be the only buttons you fasten. Fastening the bottom buttons on a suit will distort the drape of the fabric and should never be done. Also, don't forget to unfasten all of the buttons when you sit down.
  • Tucking in Your Tie- If you are thinking of tucking in your tie, don't. This look is not fashionable in the slightest and is usually the result of a tie that is too long or trousers that are worn too high. Your tie should just reach your waistband or belt buckle; it should never be longer or shorter. If you are worried your tie might get in the way when you are leaning over, wear a tie clip; don't tuck it in.
  • Labels- When you purchase a suit, the designer's label will most likely be stitched somewhere on the jacket. Many times, it is placed on the sleeve. This is not meant to stay on the jacket and should be removed after purchasing the suit.
  • Looking Uncomfortable- When you put on a suit, you need to consider the fit, the colours, the style, and the patterns for the suit. Each one of these factors goes into making a suit look fantastic. If you don't make sure all of these factors are considered, you may end up looking uncomfortable, sloppy, and awkward in the suit. I may appear as if the suit is wearing you instead.
Wearing men's suits can help you obtain the respect you deserve, the job you want, and the admiration you desire. However, if you want to pull off the perfect look, avoid these common mistakes.

Easter Traditions Around the World

Easter Traditions Around the World

Easter Traditions Around the World
By Mandy Waters

For the people around the globe, Easter represents a vast array of different, but significant beliefs, ideals and meanings. These beliefs are celebrated in the form of chocolate eggs, 'treasure hunts', the Easter Bunny, greeting cards, and many other vibrant, colourful customs. But in certain countries and traditions, the Easter Holiday is an excuse to throw the conventions out the window, and celebrate in some truly bizarre ways.
Though the giving of Easter eggs seems cemented in standard tradition, families and loved ones will still find small variations to this rule. In some countries, such as Bulgaria and Ukraine, the Easter egg is a symbol of new life, giving extra incentive to mark the occasion with high levels of creativity and wonder. The Ukrainian Pysanka egg is an example of this hardened tradition, making use of beeswax in the decorating process, and features traditional Ukrainian folk designs.
However, it's not all about the eggs when it comes to celebrating Easter, and here are a few more unique methods for you to digest with your chocolate this year:
Did you know that Australians are the world's largest consumers of chocolate eggs? The Easter Bunny sure is to busy there come Easter Sunday? In fact no, this isn't the case. Largely blamed for the destruction of vegetable crops, the Easter Bunny is in fact replaced with the Easter Bilby. These native marsupials share many features with the rabbit, and much of the money spent on Bilby goods and sweets at Easter are given to charities charged with preventing the extinction of these endangered creatures.
In Scotland and Northern Island, Easter is celebrated not just by eating and decorating the eggs, but by rolling them down steep hills. The practice of 'egg rolling' symbolises the rolling away of the stone blocking Christ's 'grave'. The event is replicated in the USA as well, and each Easter Monday, locals of Washington DC are able to visit the White House and join in the fun as parents and children are invited to compete with the President and his family.
Nordic countries also have an odd tradition that sees children dressing up as witches, and knocking door-to-door for sweets and chocolate, in a bizarre distortion of Halloween's Trick or Treat. Sweden also does its best in reflecting customs usually seen at other times of the year by celebrating with bonfires. The tradition is widely regarded as the practice of warding off evil spirits, such as witches, and falls close to the night of Walpurgis.
Elsewhere in Europe, Czech Republic and Slovakia specifically, whipping your wife with a braided whip is actually encouraged rather than considered demeaning, and well...illegal. The 'pomlzka', or 'korbč', is a colourfully designed whip which is used to 'hit' others, and by doing so, infuse them with a sense of happiness and good luck for the rest of the coming year.
Easter Holiday s in Greece, Mexico, Spain and Portugal have their own unique branding of justice. This consists of the locals holding a 'fake trial' days before Easter Sunday, and in a method faintly reminiscent of November 5th, figures of Judas are strung up, and left hanging for days. Bonfire Night festivities are then replicated fully on the Sunday when the unfortunate figures are burnt, or stuffed with fireworks, contributing to a wonderfully intense kaleidoscope of colour and warmth.

It's OK to Cheat to Drop a Dress Size

It's OK to Cheat to Drop a Dress Size

It's OK to Cheat to Drop a Dress Size
By Margaret A Sims

Normally, I am a fan of honesty. It is good for all areas of your life, work and business but, when it comes to dressing, we women have been cheating for centuries. Push up bras, shapewear, hair extensions, high heels, tummy-control stockings... the list goes on and on.
We say it is all for men and our partners in particular BUT it is really to impress other women. Ouch!
If the word cheating feels a bit harsh, many Image Consultants call it Illusion Dressing. I prefer to call it Smart Dressing.
So let's get down to some smart dressing tips for business and professional women over 40 so you feel good and look like you have dropped a dress size.
Be Smart with Colour
Yes we all know that dark colours make you look a dress-size smaller. Before you congratulate yourself on your all-black wardrobe, let's be a little smarter.
Ditch baggy black clothes. Check that your black clothes skim your body. Take the neckline lower than your collarbone. Add some texture for variety - lace, frills, pleats, buttons or material with some sheen or shine... anything but plain matte, smooth black. Look for a pattern with a mixture of black and a little bit of a lighter colour to create an interesting black.
Consider also other dark basic colours like chocolate brown, charcoal grey or red-black. Buy rich dark colours like grape, aubergine, purple, maroon, claret red or dark green to look slimmer and feel elegant. Wear some of these colours in silk, lace or a mesh fabric for variety.
Choose Your Style Carefully
To look like you have dropped a dress size, wear something that gently emphasise your midriff area (i.e. from your bust to your belly button).
Wear a dress or a top with a band that goes from under your bust to above your waist. This is a very popular style and suits all figures. You will look slimmer because it highlights your rib area and suggests a smaller waist.
Any dress that gently defines your waist also works well. Wear this style at mid-knee length as longer hems in this style can make you look dowdy. Small pleats that cross over diagonally across the midriff area also slim and flatten your tummy.
Vertical pintucks from your neckline to the fullest part of your bust create tiny gathers that skim your waist and suggest a smaller body. Any other style that has a little bit of gather below the bust also works well. Avoid wide vertical pleats or lots of small vertical pleats from the bust or neckline. These styles add too much fullness and make you look bigger or worse, pregnant when you have passed that stage of your life.
Diagonal and curved colour-blocking breaks up your body shape and gives the illusion that you have lost weight.
Good Fit is the Secret to Looking Slimmer
A good alteration will make your clothing look like it was made exactly to fit you. Fit is the secret to looking slimmer and more professional as most women hide behind baggy, boxy clothes which make them look and feel bigger.
Your most flattering skirt, dress or sleeve length plus skirts and pants that are tapered slightly to the hem add up to good fit and the illusion of being a dress-size smaller. Perfect fit also builds your confidence and straightens your posture. Experiment with the best length for you and if you have sewing skills, you can do it yourself. Otherwise seek professional help and advice.
Last Words on the Subject
Buy shapewear that has a high waist (i.e. it goes up to under your bust). This style slim ribs, waist and tummy in one go. Last, last words - stand tall. Good posture instantly makes you look slimmer.
So cheat away (Sorry! Smart Dress) with my blessing and drop a dress size.

7 Signs That Indicate It's Bad Timing for a Relationship

7 Signs That Indicate It's Bad Timing for a Relationship

7 Signs That Indicate It's Bad Timing for a Relationship
By James Chapman Jr.

Connecting with someone special can be a beautiful experience. However, both individuals must be able to commit and not let outside obstacles get in the way of their budding romance. Like everything, love can come at the wrong time regardless of how strong two people's feeling are for each other. No number of marriage blogs will prepare you for the ultimate decision if you or your prospective significant other has something holding them back. If you think you've found the right person at a not-so-right time, take a look at some of the signs that'll give you clarity.
7 Indications of Bad Relationship Timing
1. Financial setback
One of the main reasons why romantic partnerships never get off the ground is because of money, or lack thereof. One or both individuals may be between jobs, unhappy at their current jobs, have major debt or bad credit, and/or struggling to make ends meet. Although both parties may have good intentions, there's eventually a huge strain put on the relationship, particularly when one person feels like he/she is contributing more than the other. Unfortunately, it may be time to call it quits if you can't find a way to work around the issue.
2. One or both of you are still getting over a break-up
Another popular signal of bad timing is if someone is carrying baggage from a previous sour relationship. As much as a person may like you, if he/she isn't completely over his/her ex, your bond could backfire. The effected individual may compare you to the old partner even when they don't mean to, which can be annoying and hurtful. It's best to let them heal so you don't risk becoming a rebound.
3. Long distance
Long distance relationships rarely last because there's always temptation and not enough time to spend together. Plus, money becomes an issue when it comes to always having to make travel arrangements. Some people find it easier to just part ways rather than holding onto something that can be too much pressure.
4. Family issues
Unfortunately, family dysfunction can stop a relationship from budding as well. A relative's death, sibling dramas, or parents' overprotectiveness can cause a bitter end.
5. Work-related demands
No one likes to feel neglected. Sometimes potential partners may not be able to avoid putting in long hours at their job, especially if they're next in line for a promotion or some other form of career advancement. If this is the case, you shouldn't try to compete for the other person's time. Wish him/her well and leave the relationship if you're not able to handle playing second place for awhile.
6. Health-related concerns
Failing health can also be detrimental. Although you may want to be there for someone you have feelings for during their illness, having a regular relationship is probably not a good idea since their focus should be on a full recovery.
7. Traumatic experience
If a person has just gone through some kind of traumatic experience, such as a car accident or violent encounter, it's a good idea not to pressure them into entering a relationship. He/she needs to concentrate on a psychological healing by seeking help from a professional with a counseling degree before they can pursue a courtship.

Traveling Overseas To Santorini

Traveling Overseas To Santorini

Traveling Overseas To Santorini
By Ben Pate

If you are looking for a unique spot to go on an international vacation that might not be around for much longer, consider going to the beautiful island of Santorini. This island is currently under volcano watch. Santorini is a wonderful place to travel to. If you need to get an expedited passport renewal taken care of before you leave, you can go online and find one of the many United States passport services that are available. It is critical to remember, if you are going to be doing any international travel, that you will need a valid United States passport. You will not be allowed to travel overseas, for any reason, if you do not have a valid United States passport to show to customs officials.
Passport Needs
United States passports allow their holders to travel anywhere in the world. If you do not have a passport, you will not be allowed to do any international travel. That is why these documents are so vital and important. Every single United States citizen is eligible to receive a United States passport. All you have to do is go online to a reputable passport agency and fill out the necessary application forms. Also, you will need to show documentation, such as a driver's license or birth certificate, that prove your citizenship.
Greece
Many movies have featured the island of Santorini including the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, and Mamma Mia. Its peak tourism season is May through October, however visiting in the off season is much better as prices go down and the island is very quiet. Santorini, officially known as Thira, is an island in the Aegean Sea off the coast of Greece. It is part of the circular archipelago and is the most southern of the Cyclades islands. It is an island known for its sunsets, and picturesque scenes such as white buildings with blue domes.
International Destination
Santorini is a fantastic place to take an international vacation to. The island nation has some of the most breathtaking landscapes in the world. There are also many wonderful accommodations for travelers who visit Santorini. If you are looking for activities in Santorini, you can go online and find many that will suit any type of travler. You can go on a backpacking adventure with a guide, or you can even go on donkey rides through the island. If you are someone who enjoys wine, there are many great wineries to visit that offer some of the most delicious wines in the region. Also, there are incredible restaurants in Santorini that offer some of the local delicacies.
Lagoons
The lagoon is separated from the ocean by a smaller island known as Therasia. The eruption occurred about 3600 years ago during the height of the Minoan civilization. Santorini is basically the remains of the epic eruption that wiped out the Minoan civilization. This eruption formed the current geological caldera which is a giant central, lagoon with high steep cliffs on three sides.
If you are looking for a great place to go on an international vacation, you should consider visiting the island of Santorini. Act quickly, because this nation is currently under threat of a volcano that could erupt at any time. If you need to obtain an expedited passport renewal before you leave, you can go online and get this service taken care of at an online passport agency. They will be able to get you the necessary forms to make sure you get your United States passport on time for your trip.
