I've got to admit that I am usually skeptical about books that show you how to go green. Sometimes the suggestions are so bizarre that you can just about guarantee that no one will be taking them seriously. So you can imagine that I was pleasantly surprised that the book, Ready, Set Green: Eight Weeks to Modern Eco-Living by Graham Hill and Meaghan O'Neill of Treehugger provided many usable suggestions for the greener lifestyle.

The "Save the Planet in 30 Minutes or Less" lists of suggestions, followed by "So You Want to Do More" lists, are extremely user-friendly which can help gain buy in from readers. Symbols are also used to indicate benefits to gain from the efforts. And the benefits aren't just green. They include saving money, saving time, and improving health, too. Brilliant and missing from many other works of the green genre.

The ecofriendly factoid and myth buster box items highlight interesting and useful information. Background data is presented in an informative and less judgmental manner than I have seen in other works. As well, the focus on how it impacts the reader helps drive the points home.

There were really only two issues I had with the book.

First, there was the obligatory ride your bike suggestion. As I am writing this review, it is now 8 degrees Fahrenheit with a predicted high of 14 tomorrow here in Chicago. This one (and walking) usually falls on deaf ears, except in warmer seasons, in climates like this. Additionally, urban sprawl with high speed highways and no bike lanes often makes it a dangerous endeavor, especially in early morning or evening. These types of efforts will require entire community and governmental support to become workable.

Second, many of the products suggested are obscure brands that you will not find at your local Target or grocery store. So if I have to order them and incur shipping costs, both financial and environmental, have we made progress? The limited availability of more earth friendly and socially conscious product choices in highly frequented retail outlets is one of the major challenges to the green consumer movement.

Because of its incredibly user-friendly format and clearly presented and useful information, Ready, Set Green is a must-read for those who want to learn some real world ways to go green.

To organize your Super Bowl party, there are some essentials you need to take care of:

1: Invite the diehards: A little friendly competition in your house, whether it be for the team or the sport, is key to keeping the party focused.

Think about the possibility of moving the kitchen table to the living room...lots of seating around the table plus the Lazy Boy/Sofa in line sight to the TV could maximize your viewing area while providing places for food, without having to leave the room. CAUTION: a table cloth may be a valuable interest to place on the floor under the table AND on the table itself. Provide an easy escape route for when nature calls.

4: Setting up the "Kid Party": Give the kids some space to have their own fun. Movies, pizza and ice cream can give you the much needed adult-time and allow them to lounge around too.

Set up a schedule between the parents for "check-in" sessions where each parent can take a quick look and make sure things are staying kosher.

For the little tikes, hire your babysitter for the night and ask for her movie, pizza and ice cream preference.

Make sure to keep track of adult drinks, to avoid any confusion on the kids' part.

5: Guests who had "Too much fun": Someone is bound to get out of hand at a party like yours. Make sure you've got a little cash at hand to send them home in a taxi, or pull out the roll away and offer them a glass or water and some rest.

Ok, that may be a bold statement but in many cases I've found it to be true. After all, I've been in hundreds of my clients' closets and talked to thousands of women about what their biggest style challenges are and I've noticed that, when you get down to basics, the same things pop up over and over.

Do you stand in front of your closet wondering just what to wear each morning? It can be a big letdown day after day to gaze at the hundreds and thousands of dollars' worth of clothing that you've purchased, only to still feel that you don't have any clothes. Talk about depressing. Yet the remedy isn't nearly as complex or complicated as you may think, so take note.

Often with a few small tweaks to your wardrobe you can take it from good to great, or from non-performing to being a star performer in no time flat. The key, though, is in knowing how to put things together in a way that works for you. Read on to discover how you can breathe new life into your wardrobe and let it be your source of inspiration rather than frustration.

1/ Create a strategy - Buying clothing piece-meal or at random, without any thought to what goes with what and how you'll put outfits together, can lead to a big disconnect in your closet. Take stock of what you have and know what you need. Then when you shop, ensure that what you buy goes with at least 3 items you already own to avoid the 'one hit wonder' or the item that proves more costly because because you have to buy something else to wear it with. Instead, get in your closet and ask yourself what you can add that will create more outfits using what you already own. Would a simple cream cardigan go with half your dresses and all your tees? Put it on your list! Do you need the right shoes to wear with all your dress pants? Add those too! Ask yourself why you're not wearing what you have and if the answer is t hat you don't have the right pieces, take note of what those are and whether they'll truly maximize your wardrobe - or just provide a quick fix for one outfit. Your goal is to bring in items that will go the distance and that you'll turn to time and time again for effortless dressing.

2/ To a Tee - One thing I find is that my clients purchase tops that have ruffles, bows or other adornment, simply to shake up their style and avoid looking boring. While I'm all for this attitude, it leads to more limited choices when it comes to layering. This time of year I encourage my clients to stock up on simple, FITTED long-sleeved tees to wear under sweaters and vests and short-sleeved tees or tanks to layer under jackets and cardigans. When you keep it simple you don't have to worry about the design element competing with the outer layer and you'll find you have far more versatility in your wardrobe. *Secret - opt for a print to keep things exciting, or go for a bold, unexpected shade that will bring new life to what's in your closet now. The closer to the body your tops fit, the slimmer you'll look and the less bulk you'll add when layering. Many women shy away from fitted tees because it shows their muffin top. Simply try layering a body slimming tank underneath and see how sleek you can look.

3/ Go Basic - To bring new life to your style sometimes it's best to start with your foundation. When you have a good, versatile foundation to start with you have the beginnings for many fun, fashionable and fabulous outfits and can use accessories, print and color to add in an extra spark. Take note of your core items and ensure that you have plenty of basic and timeless staples that can be the foundation for MANY outfits for years to come. Think tailored trousers, chic jackets, dark denim and cardigans that can take your look to the next level. But don't make the mistake of going too classic if that's not really your style. I see many women making the mistake of buying what they feel they 'should' wear instead of what will really work for them. Get clear on what your needs are and how y ou can make your look all your own.

4/ Black out - I see it over and over. Everyone loves black, or at least feels that they MUST have it in their closet. Yet black doesn't always bring out your best on its own, and can be downright harsh when paired with stark white or intense brights. Instead, take your black down a notch and try pairing it with cream for a softer, more flattering approach. Black and tan can also be a chic combination that adds elegance without being overpowering. Steer clear of black with chartreuse, orange or even red this time of year. They'll wash you out, leave you looking like you're ready for Halloween or Christmas, and will overshadow your true beauty. Try medium tones or muted, earth tones to put a new spin on your black and see how flattering it can look on you!

Fragrant, easy-to-make Italian amaretti chocolate cake (torta facile amaretti e cioccolato) combines bittersweet almond and rich chocolate flavors.

Great for every occasion.

INGREDIENTS:

200 g (7 oz) amaretti,

50 g (1.7 oz) semisweet chocolate, ground

100 g (3.5 oz) butter, softened,

4 eggs,

120 g (4 oz) sugar,

120 g (4 oz) flour,

1 tsp yeast,

1/4 to 1/2 cup amaretto liqueur

cocoa powder, for sifting

PREPARATION:

1. Put amaretti in a processor. Pulse until cookies are finely ground.

2. Whisk the egg whites until stiff.

3. Mix butter with sugar for 20 seconds. Add egg yolks and mix for another 20 seconds. Add amaretto liqueur, flour, yeast, ground amaretti and chocolate. Mix for 30 seconds.

4. Fold in beaten egg whites.

5. Pour into a greased and floured pan. Bake for 45 minutes at 175 C (350 F). Let cool.

6. Just before serving, dust the top with cocoa powder.

Amaretti cookies were invented in the early 18th century in the town of Saronno, Italy. That is why they are sometimes called Amaretti di Saronno. A bishop or cardinal from Milan surprised the town of Saronno with a visit. A young couple of residents of the town, welcomed him and paid tribute with an original confection. On the spur of the moment, they had baked cookies made of egg whites, sugar and crushed apricot kernels or almonds. The visiting bishop was so pleased that he blessed them with a happy and lifelong marriage. The result was preservation of the secret recipe over many generations.

Amaretti (meaning 'little bitter things') is the Italian name for macaroons.

They small, domed-shaped biscuits that are crunchy and crisp on the outside and chewy in the middle. Amaretti cookies are made from ground almonds (or almond paste), together with sugar and egg whites and can be flavored with liqueurs or chocolate. Sometimes, two baked biscuits are sandwiched together with buttercream, ganache or jam.

In Italy these biscuits were served with a liqueur or sweet dessert wine, but they can also be a great accompaniment to a bowl of gelato (ice cream), sorbetto (sherbets), semifreddo or mousses. Another favorite way to use amarettis is to finely grind them and then add them to desserts (such as trifles) for added flavor and texture. There is also a mini version of amaretti, called amarettini.

You can find traditional Italian Amaretti cookies in specialty gourmet shops or order online.

So why not try adding chocolate to a cocktail; such a combination is one I am sure nobody would be able to turn their nose up at.

Combining chocolate with cocktails is a delicate process however. The rich flavors of chocolate means that the volume you use must be just right so that you acquire all the essential dark flavors while not overloading your cocktail, rendering it sickly and overpowering. This rule can be ignored though if you are a chocoholic of course; in that case go mad. But the key to all cocktails is balance, and it is no exception with chocolate cocktails.

There is many ways you can add chocolate to drinks: Creme de cacao, chocolate liqueurs, cocoa power, chocolate syrup, chocolate vodka, cocoa nibs or even chocolate bitters. This great variety gives chocolate cocktails a great range and flexibility. There are countless chocolate cocktails recipes that will satisfy your chocolate cravings for years to come, and plenty of room for experimenting yourself. Here is a selection of chocolate cocktails that will be sure to hit the spot.

Perhaps the most natural ingredient chocolate can be combined with is coffee. They share a similar history and botanical make-up, making them ideal partners for mixing in a cocktail. To make a chocolate coffee cocktail you will need 1/4 oz brandy or cognac, 1/2 oz dark Creme de Cacao, 1/2 oz chocolate syrup, 4 oz hot coffee, 1 oz milk, plus some whipped double cream. To prepare this dark and smooth cocktail put all the ingredients except the cream into a pan and gently heat, pour into a tall glass or a mug. Finish by topping with whipped cream and dust with cocoa for the perfectly luxurious finishing touch.

For a twist on a classic you could try a Chocolate Cherry Manhattan. For this you will need 1 1/2 oz Rye whiskey, 1/2 oz Martini Rossato, 1/5 oz dark chocolate liqueur and 1/5 oz Fernet Branca. Mix all the ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice until properly chilled and strain into a glass. For a special touch you can garnish with a couple of cherries dipped in dark chocolate.

If your tipple of choice is rum then you can try your hand at a chocolate rum cocktail. To create this delicious cocktail you will need 1 1/2 oz dark rum, 1/2 oz Creme de Cacao, 1/2 oz light cream, and 1/2 oz white Cr¨¨me de Menthe. To prepare place all the ingredients into a cocktail shaker and shake well with ice before straining into a cocktail glass.

For an easy and effective twist on the ever favorite White Russian cocktail you can simple replace the use of Kahlua with Creme de Cacao for a chocolaty edge. To make this quick to make cocktail you will need 1 oz vodka, 1 oz Creme de Cacao, and 1 oz cream. Simply place all the ingredients in a shaker with ice, go to work with your shaking skills, and its ready serve.

The final cocktail on our list of a cross section of chocolaty cocktails is another transformed classic, the Holy Mole Margarita. This cocktail includes which combines 1 1/5 oz tequila, 1/5 oz cacao blanco, 1/4 oz dark chocolate liqueur, a dash of orange bitters, plus a dash of Bitter Truth xocolatl mole bitters. To finish this cocktail off perfectly you can garnish it by dipping the cocktail glass into chocolate syrup before dipping it into chocolate sprinkles, heaven for any chocolate lover.

Vaseline or Petroleum Jelly, is a mix of paraffins, waxes and mineral oils that have a melting point just above body temperature so it melts on contact with your skin, fills in cracks, protects lips from exterior elements, and acts as a sealant keeping moisture in.

Every night I put Vaseline on my lips before bed and I wake up with moist lips. It goes on top of almost any lipstick or stain. It doesn't have any medical effects. Not anymore. However, it is an excellent sealant. On very dry days, I have to reapply. They came out with a diamond encrusted jar in one of their promotional give-aways. Fancy jar or regular jar, Vaseline is a GOOD lip balm.

The Laura Mercier sales rep said to me "It will change your life". I laughed and took a sample home. Well, it has changed my life. Before this product, I relied on good old Vaseline for my routine lip treatment. It was inexpensive and felt pretty safe. Vaseline was better than any lip balms on the market.

Anyone who follows my blogs or articles knows I love soup! Soups are the best food in the world in my opinion. So bear with me as I share more soup recipes for your pleasure. Try this Basic Chicken Noodle Soup that cooks in your crockpot or slowcooker while you are busy or away. Oyster Stew is not for everyone but if you are fond of oysters, give this simple stew a try. The Mushroom Bisque is from my diabetic blog but is not a "diabetic" recipe.

BASIC CHICKEN NOODLE SOUP

2 bone-in chicken breasts, skinned

1 onion, chopped

3 celery stalks, sliced

2 carrots, sliced

6 sprigs fresh parsley

2 garlic cloves, peeled

1 bay leaf

1 tsp dried thyme or 1 tbsp chopped fresh thyme

1/2 tsp salt

1/4 tsp black pepper

2 cartons (32-oz each) low-sodium chicken broth

1 1/2 cups egg noodles

1/4 cup chopped fresh dill, optional

In a 5 or 6 -quart slow cooker or crockpot combine the chicken, onion, celery, carrots, parsley, garlic, bay leaf, thyme, salt and pepper. Pour the chicken broth over the mixture. Cover and cook on high for 4 to 5 hours or low for 8 to 10 hours.

Remove the parsley, garlic, and bay leaf using a slotted spoon; discard. Transfer the chicken to a cutting board; let stand for 10 minutes or until cool enough to handle. Remove the bones and discard. Cut the chicken into bite-size pieces.

While chicken cools, cook the noodles according to the package directions. Stir the chicken back into the cooker along with the prepared noodles. Replace lid and cook on high until the chicken is hot, approximately 5 minutes.

To serve, sprinkle with the dill if desired.

OYSTER STEW

1/4 cup butter

1 pint fresh oysters

2 cups milk

1/2 cup light cream

1 tsp salt

dash of freshly ground black pepper

Melt the butter in a small saucepan. Add the oysters including the liquor and cook while stirring over low heat just until edges start to boil.

In another saucepan, heat the milk and cream. Stir in the salt, pepper, and oysters.

Yield: 4 cups

MUSHROOM BISQUE

3/4 lb fresh mushrooms, sliced

1 garlic clove, minced

1/3 cup onion, finely chopped

1/2 cup butter

2 tbsp fresh lemon juice

4 tbsp flour

2 tsp salt

4 cups chicken broth

1/4 tsp freshly ground black pepper

2 cups low-fat cream

fresh chopped parsley

In a 2-quart saucepan, melt the butter; add the mushrooms, garlic, and onion sauteeing 5 minutes. Add the lemon juice. Blend in the flour then gradually stir in the broth. Add the salt and pepper. Cook soup, stirring constantly, until the soup is slightly thickened. Stir in the cream, heat thoroughly, but do not boil. Garnish with the chopped parsley.

Yield: 4 to 6 servings.

Fifth Avenue is renowned as being one of the most prestigious and expensive streets in the world. Grilling and broiling are just a couple of possibilities for preparing steak. These quick, simple steak recipes will broaden your repertoire beyond the usual meat-and-potatoes basics. The right steak recipes will take your steak from good to great!

Steak au Poivre

Poivre is French for pepper, and that's the main flavoring of the creamy sauce at the heart of this elegant steak dish. Prepare your steaks as usual; covering the meat with foil after it's cooked so it rests as you prepare the pepper sauce. Crush two tablespoons of whole black peppercorns and a tablespoon of green peppercorns in a spice grinder or mortar and pestle. Dice a whole shallot and saut� it in butter, then add the crushed spices to the mixture. Cook it over medium heat until the shallots become tender, about four or five minutes, then add a cup of heavy cream and salt to taste. Reduce the sauce until it browns and thickens enough to coat the spoon. Serve the sauce over or alongside the steak.

Cajun Steak

New Orleans is rightly famous for its food, and while the port city serves up plenty of seafood, it also knows how to handle a great steak. Make a marinade of enough vegetable oil to coat the steaks, paprika, cayenne pepper, dried thyme, a dash of allspice, diced onions and diced green peppers. Soak the steaks overnight in the mixture, then cook the steaks as desired. Top the steaks with a dab of butter before serving.

Herbed Butter Steak

One of the easiest steak recipes is also one of the best. Chefs rely on compound butter to make their recipes sing, and you can do the same. Cook your steak however you like, then add herbed butter just before you serve it. Make your own butter a day in advance by mixing a stick of room-temperature butter with chopped parsley, chives, finely minced garlic, dill, smoked paprika or any other flavors you enjoy.

Korean Bulgogi Steak

Traditionally, Korean bulgogi is thinly sliced and served with rice, but you can use this magnificently flavorful marinade for whole, uncut steaks as well. Combine half a cup of soy sauce, a tablespoon of dark sesame oil, three cloves of minced garlic, half a teaspoon of grated fresh ginger and chopped green onions to taste. Add red pepper flakes and a tablespoon or two of toasted sesame seeds. Let the steaks marinate in the mixture for four to six hours or overnight before cooking. This recipe works especially well with the smokiness of grilling over charcoal.

Whichever steak recipe you choose, make it your own by tweaking the spices and herbs. Add a little tarragon here or some cumin there. You can't go wrong with a great steak.

It's been a while since I wrote something in this series and I decided that the holiday season is a good time to write one about looking good on a candlelight dinner date. Now that the holidays and the year end are near, people are feeling more relaxed than usual. Bonuses are given out and I suppose this means higher chances of you getting asked out! So how should you dress up so that if someone came and took a picture of you, you'd look picture perfect?

1) Makeup

Play up your most important feature. Follow the rule to enhance and bring it out, while toning down the rest. However, not too much makeup should be used, because honestly, guys prefer women who look presentable - not scary. Don't head out to a candlelight dinner with too much glitter on the eyes - as if going for a hen's night in Vegas - even though you'd want your date to be able to see your eyes under the dim lighting. If the place you're going to has lighting that's too dark, it's the wrong place. Skip the red lips if it's your first dinner together because although it's sexy, it can scare some guys away. However, make sure you wear a long wearing lipstick or risk having to touch up regularly throughout the meal. A simple evening smoky eye with long lashes should do the trick. Nothing too heavy - remember this. You don't need shadowing of the cheek hollows either - just highlighting your cheekbones will do; Candlelight can give you facial features you never knew you had.

2) Let Your Hair Down

It's a dinner date. So, it should be relaxed, chilled, and fun. It's a time when you and your guy spend some hours getting to know each other better. Let your hair down. Let him see how you normally look when you're not on the job. Of course, do style it nicely - it's a date after all. Curl it, straighten it, volumise it. Whatever it is, do something to show that you take care of your looks even when you're just being you. In other words, show him your feminine side. Leave the hair clips and hair bands at home. If you've got a fringe that gets in the way when you work, this is the time to let it down.

3) Accessorise, But Not Too Much

It's always good to accessorise and look put together. Earrings, rings, bracelets or a cute necklace charm. But don't overdo this because you don't want your date to be distracted every time you reach out for that glass of champagne or cut that steak. Pick something that goes with your attire. A simple sparkly necklace charm could do the trick. You could also wear a set of accessories, you know, the ones that come together when you buy them.

4) Proper Dressing

I think most people know and agree with this. Always dress proper where ever you go, but you should keep this in mind even more when going for a candlelight dinner date. Chances are, the restaurant's guests are also going to be well dressed and you don't want to look like Snookie in a sea of elegant Tilda Swintons. I'm not saying wear a gown because while you should be properly dressed for the occasion, you aren't going to a ball and you don't want to scare your date away (picture him wearing FCUK and you wearing a red Valentino). Unless, of course, you are going somewhere that requires a ball gown, in which case he should be in a tuxedo.

5) Shoes That Maketh a Lady

I'm a heels kind of girl so I'd say always wear a pair of heels when heading out to dinner with a guy, especially if it's one of your first dates. However, make sure you wear something comfortable (like Jimmy Choos) because you don't know where the night will lead and how long it's going to be. You might end up going to other places after dinner and you're going to have to walk in those heels. If that happens, you can only blame yourself for choosing the pretty but hurting-as-hell shoes. Some might ask, why heels when you can wear something that's easier to walk in? Well, mainly because heels, rather than flats, usually go better with formal outfits. Also, I'd suggest leaving the Alexander McQueen alligators at home.

When Jim Dear and Darling return and find that Lady and the Tramp have saved the baby from a rat that entered the crib; they end up adopting Tramp. This story is a great choice to watch as family on Valentine's Day. It is a story about romantic love as well as the love of family.

Two very different sisters experience their own love stories in this fun film. Bianca wants to date but is told by her resistant father that she can only date if her older sister, Kat, does. The catch is that Kat has no desire to date. Cameron, a boy who is interested in dating Bianca, sets out to find a date for Kat. After resistance from both sides, Kat and the boy Cameron sets her up with end up falling for each other, as do Cameron and Bianca. This movie is both fun and romantic; a great Valentine's Day choice for those who do not want anything too serious.

4. Titanic

In this romantic film, the main character, Rose, recounts the story of her journey on the Titanic. She had boarded the ship with her mother and her fianc�e; but ended up falling in love with an artist named Jack. Rose was forbidden by her mother and fianc�e to see Jack; but the two snuck around just to be together. Jack died following the collision, but Rose survived to tell her story. This film is another story of love persevering despite differences between the two and resistance from family and others.

5. Father of the Bride

Valentine's Day is a romantic day, but love comes in many different types. This is another film that explores more than one type of love; in this case romantic love and the love between a father and a daughter. George, the father, has trouble accepting that his daughter is grown up and getting married, and resists as wedding plans are made. Ultimately, he seems to accept that his daughter, Annie, is grown up. NEW YORK, New York is the Big Apple. Fortunately, it is not distinguished for its nutrition, but rather as the city with the most bars and clubs in the United States. There are always plenty of parties going on.

SAN FRANCISCO, California, is the city where flower power began half a century ago - and they are still partying, both hipster style and in electronic dance bars from Sausolito to San Jose. Among the top places to party include the Mission and SOMA Districts, as well as North Beach

CALGARY, Alberta, is known as Cowtown because of the famous Calgary Stampede, a 10-day rodeo that draws millions of people to the city. Even if country music culture is not your style, the after-rodeo parties are epic. These days, the Stampede is as much about the parties as it is about the rodeo.

Norway.

The town of Troms�, located in Norway's far north, is famous for its Aurora Borealis activity. The lights in this region occur long after the extended summer days are gone and it's location above the Arctic Circle, well within the Northern Lights region, is widely known as one of the best places to experience the shimmering lights. The town is well equipped with everything you'd need during your stay here but it's not the only way to experience the lights in this region, there's also the option to cruise Norway's fjord-lined coast and experience the lights out on the open water.

Finland.

Another northern country famed for its access to the Aurora Borealis is Finland. Many who come here head to Luosto in Northern Finland, the location of the Aurora Chalet. The Chalet is famed for its beeper system that alerts guests to the appearance of the Northern Lights, with data feed to the devices from the Northern Lights Research Center in the nearby town, Sodanklya. If that's a little too far north, then the lights can also be enjoyed in the skies over Nellim, a town located close to Finland's third largest lake, Lake Inari; it makes for a great location to see the lights shimmering over the still lake.

Iceland.

Moving away from Scandinavia, our next location is the small island, Iceland. With a capital city that's well known for its nightlife, Iceland makes for a great all round destination to see the Northern Lights. If you want to see the lights while you're here then heading out to the pingvellir National Park. The park is a UNESCO Heritage Site located where the North American and Eurasian continental plates meet, which coincidentally forms a wide open plane perfect for viewing the Aurora Borealis.

Alaska.

The final destination on our list is the other side of the globe, Alaska. Although not as often associated with the Aurora Borealis, the US state is still located well within the Northern Lights region. The best way to see the lights here has to be on a costal cruise, away from the lights of the big cities.

Berry Bliss Smoothie

This is a clear favorite with the kids and kids at heart for breakfast, snack, or on a hot day. Enjoy! It tastes so good that you forget that it's good for you!"

This smoothie contains super foods and flax seed. Blueberries and aronia berries have some of the greatest antioxidant levels you can find in a fruit and flaxseed is a powerhouse for omega-3s and good source of fiber.

2 scoops raspberry sherbet

1 ripe banana

4 strawberries

10 aronia berries

15 blueberries

5 blackberries

16 oz orange juice

1 ½ teaspoons ground flax seed

Put berries in a blender and blend until smooth while slowly adding the orange juice. You can make your smoothie thicker by adding some vanilla ice.

Pour into tall glass and serve chilled.

Blueberry Cake

You can use any berries such as aronia berries, blackberries or other berries, not just blueberries.

Using gluten-free flour makes this recipe good for people who have allergic reaction to gluten. You can make your own gluten-free flour or purchase it at a health food store. If you do not want to make your blueberry cake gluten-free just use regular flour. The use of Fructevia in place of sugar makes this a good desert for diabetics.

2 cups gluten-free flour

2 teaspoon baking powder

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 cup blueberries (frozen is fine)

2 tablespoons gluten-free flour

1/2 cup coconut oil or real butter

1/2 cup frictevia

2 eggs

1/2 cup warm milk

1/8 cup fructevia

1/4 teaspoon cinnamon

Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees. Spray olive oil or other lubricant on a 9-inch-square pan.

Mix the flour, baking powder and salt together in a bowl and set aside. Use 2 tablespoons gluten-free flour to coat blueberries and set it aside. Mix real butter or coconut oil and fructevia in a bowl; add eggs and beat well. Add milk to the dry ingredients and mix then add the blueberries. Put mixture into the prepared pan. Mix furctevia and cinnamon together and sprinkle over the top of the cake. Bake 35 to 40 minutes.

A couple examples of gluten-free flour recipe you can use to make your own flour by grinding your own using a mill such as the Wonder Mill are as follows:

3 cups combined bean flour

3 cups cornstarch

3 cups tapioca starch flour

3 cup rice flour

1/2 tsp. xanthan gum

Another recipe that is not as heavy as the above is:

1 cup rice flour

1/2-3/4 cup potato starch

1/4 cup tapioca starch/flour or corn flour

This is good for coating fried chicken for example.

Milling your own flour is possible using a mill such as a Wonder Mill. There are many reasons you should/would want to grind your own flour for bread baking.

First if you have a mill it you can mill grains and save money. Flours are cheaper when ground at home.

Secondly the quality and flavor you get from home ground flour is better. The flavor simply cannot be duplicated with any commercially available flour.

A third reason you should consider grinding your own grain flours is for the health benefits. All commercially made grain flours have had the germ removed. The germ is the part of the grain that contains healthy nutritious oils.

A fourth reason to consider making your own flour is this will give you access to flours that you might not be able to get otherwise.

BLUEBERRY RICE PUDDING

Ingredients

1 1/2 cups cooked rice

2 cups half and half

3 eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/4 cup fructevia

1/8 teaspoon salt

2 cups fresh or frozen blueberries

whipped cream for garnish

Directions

Fill the prepared custard cups with ¼ cup of rice.

Put half and half, eggs, vanilla, fructevia and salt in medium bowl and beat.

Use the custard mixture to fill custard cups.

Put 1 inch of hot water in large shallow pan containing and put in cups.

Bake for 30 to 40 minutes at 375 degrees or until you can inserted a knife near center it comes out clean.

Cool for about 10 minutes and then unmold.

Use a food processor or blender and Puree the blueberries.

Top custard with pureed blueberries and top this with whipped cream.

As another year ends and a new one begins, it is also a great time to consider adopting a different style, or updating your look. You can, perhaps, even make a style update your new year's resolution. Time to get rid of the hairstyle you have had for the last 5 years, and any item of clothing in your closet that you have not worn in 1 year. (Let's face it, if you didn't wear that Hawaiian print shirt last summer, you won't wear next year, either.)

The first step to updating your style is to make a specific list of what items you wish to replace. If you simply go to the mall with the idea of "buying a whole new wardrobe," you will get overwhelmed and not know where to start. Plus, you are likely to end up with single pieces rather than ensembles and outfits. A shopping list, for example, may look a little something like this:

-1 three piece gray wool pinstripe suit

-1 button down white cotton/poly dress shirt with gray wide set stripes

-2 pairs of khaki chinos, one light and one dark

-1 pair of brown leather oxfords

-1 pair of dark wash denim jeans

- 3 short sleeved cotton polo shirts, 1 purple, 1 green, 1 yellow

Etc.

See how I have noted specific colors and fabrics in this list of items? This is important to do when considering what you wish to shop for. You goal should also be to shop for pieces that can be mixed and matched with each other. For example, the dark wash jeans could be worn with any one of the colored polo shirts, or they could also be worn with the button down shirt and the vest from the three-piece suit. This is how you can effectively make many different new, stylish outfits out of a handful of key wardrobe items.

The second step in updating your style is to consider how you can make over or improve the items that you already have in your closet. For example, you may have a navy suit that is of excellent quality, but is from the 90s and is therefore a little outdated. Try taking this suit to a tailor in order to have some small tweaks made. For example, the tailor may be able to replace the buttons, put in smaller shoulder pads, and heighten the hem of the jacket. You may also wish to have the jacket tailored to make it a bit more snug, as slim cut suits are modern and stylish right now. You should also take a close look at your tie wardrobe. Any tie styles that are hanging out from the 80s and 90s are ones that you may wish to consider donating to Goodwill. However, if you have any vintage pieces from the 70s or early, many of these are once again quite popular. Ties are another item that you can also consider having altered by making them shorter or skinnier.

As you update your wardrobe, make sure not to overlook other aspects of your appearance. Shaggy facial hair can be instantly aging, as can an outdated hairstyle. Visit a reputable hair salon in your area and inquire with a stylist about a new, modern hairstyle. (Even if it is expensive, it is worth it because you will then basically have a template for future cheaper haircuts.) If you have worn the same pair of glasses frames for more than 5 years, it is time for an update on those as well.

If you want to update your style on the cheap, look for eye-catching accessories that are small pieces but make a large impact. Makeup Artist Kelsey Deenihan for Votre Vu created the look of Kate Bosworth for her press events at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival.

For the premiere of "Black Rock" at the Sundance Film Festival I prepped Kate's face by using a combination of different Votre Vu products to create the perfect canvas ready for the makeup application.

I started off by massaging "ATTENTIVE Creme de Jour for Sensitive Skin" all over the face and neck. This cream is great because it calms the skin and replenishes moisture - especially in these weather conditions.

To keep the under-eyes moisturized, I lightly smoothed into the skin "Tout le Monde Antioxidant Eye Gelee." Next I applied Votre Vu Sensational Eyes Eye Primer in Medium on lids for a perfect way to keep eye shadow on all day - the perfect base.To finish prepping the face for
makeup I dabbed a drop of the "Attentive Serum Delicat Pour Le Visage" into the skin and massaged starting at the center of the face and moving outward.Kate has amazing skin so she really doesn't need a heavy foundation. To set the foundation I dusted on Votre Vu Mineral Powder in Light all over the face.

For the premiere I wanted Kate's makeup to be fresh and natural but with a bold classic red lip. The perfect base for the lipstick is the Votre Vu Champagne Kisses Lip Treatment. I didn't line Kate's lips so the Champagne Kisses pulled double duty by moisturizing and preventing the lipstick from bleeding out.

Today with Kate we started off by prepping the face similar as I did last evening.
Kate was doing a full day of press for her movie "Black Rock" here at Sundance so we needed the skin to be extremely hydrated to prevent the makeup from looking heavy...especially in this freezing dry air. Hairstylist David Stanwell for Leonor Greyl created the look of Dreama Walker and
Helen Hunt for their premieres at the Sundance Film Festival.

For Dreama Walker’s premiere of “Compliance”, I went over her unwashed hair lightly with Leonor Greyl’s Serum de Soie Sublimateur so that I could go through and re-curl the hair without damaging. I created a soft beach wave with a braid in the front, which is a good way to keep the hair off her face.

For Helen Hunt’s look for the premiere of “The Surrogate”, I used Leonor Greyl’s Mousse Au Lotus Volumatrice and the Laque Souple light hairspray to lightly blow dry the hair.

Being the second day without washing, I lightly dampened the hair then sparingly
applied the Mousse Au Lotus Volumatrice to define the hair with a loose wave.

I lightly sprayed the hair with Laque Souple to keep it intact then added the Serum de Soie Sublimateur to the ends and she was ready. The look lasted through snow and wind!

Too much can make you look overdone. I am excited to teach you what types of blush to use and how to apply them perfectly. Below are the types of blush you need to know about:

Powder Blush: This kind of blush is great for oily skin, but it works with all skin types. It is best used after powder has been applied to the face. Because of its density, this blush will last all day.

Liquid Blush: This type of blush can be applied over foundation or on bare skin. It is great for those wanting all-day coverage as most forms are oil-free. This blush works well with normal to oily skin.

Cream Blush: This kind of blush provides high pigmentation to the skin. Because this blush is usually blended with the fingers, it is important to apply only a small amount and blend well in small circles to avoid any lines. This blush is ideal for dry to normal skin because of its strong moisturizing components.

Avoid heavy application of blush on the jawline as it can create an two-toned appearance between your face and neck.

On our very first Valentine's Day as dating couple, I wanted to prepare a very special romantic meal designed to woo and impress the man who is now my husband. I was head over heels in love and only the best would do. Only one problem... I was rich with ideas but extremely poor on funds. In fact I only had $20.00 to my name at the time ($10.00 of which I needed to put gas in my car) and a few staples on hand. I was not sure what I could do with that, but I had already invited him over so I was determined to find a creative way to pull off a romantic dinner for 2.

And then scanning the daily newspaper and praying for inspiration, I found an ad for a local store that had boneless skinless chicken breasts on sale for 89 cents per pound. While I still wasn't sure what I was going to cook, I figured boneless skinless chicken breasts were a good starting point. Surely I could come up with something using the staples I had at home and the chicken breasts. So I immediately headed out to the store and was able to score 3 pounds of chicken breasts for less than $3.00, a package of spaghetti noodles for $1.50 and a day old loaf of Italian bread marked down to 99 cents. I had some parmesan cheese at home and a few frozen veggies so I figured I could at least make some type of light pasta dish.

The recipe I came up with turned out to be a keeper and one that I make each year for our Valentine's dinner to commemorate that very first time. The best part is we can avoid the crowds and the expense of eating out (although we DO usually do lunch at a restaurant). Total cost is only about $8.00 to $10.00 if you catch the chicken breasts on sale. Nowadays I buy large quantities ahead whenever such a sale occurs and freeze the chicken breasts in packages of 4-6 for future meals. Anyway, here is the menu I came up with: Parmesan chicken and pasta, roasted Brussels sprouts, and garlic bread. He brought over a nice bottle of Chardonnay and we had a romantic dinner by candlelight. Nothing fancy for dessert. Just some ice cream I already had in the freezer; however, if I had known of a way to add a fancy dessert to the menu in those days without going over my lean budget, I would have surely made one. The rest is history as we have been married for nearly 9 years now.

Parmesan Chicken and Pasta for Two

Ingredients:

8 ounces of spaghetti noodles

2 boneless skinless chicken breasts cut into 1" cubes

2 tablespoons of cooking oil

1 cup of frozen peas

1 cup of low fat Italian salad dressing

1 teaspoon of garlic powder

1 teaspoon of dried oregano

Salt and pepper to taste

A pinch of reed pepper (optional)

1 cup of parmesan cheese

Directions:

Cook the spaghetti according to the directions on the package

In a steamer basket steam the peas over the boiling spaghetti for 2-3 minutes

In a medium skillet brown the chicken breasts cubes in the cooking oil just until it is no longer pink

Drain the spaghetti and place it in a medium sauce pan

Add the peas and the chicken to the spaghetti and mix well

Add the Italian dressing and the seasonings to the chicken and pasta mixture and toss until well coated.

Mix about � cup of the parmesan cheese into the chicken pasta mixture and toss to evenly distribute the cheese throughout.

Simmer on low heat, stirring frequently, just long enough to heat all the way through

Sprinkle the remaining � cup of cheese on top and serve

Roasted Brussels sprouts

Ingredients:

8-10 ounces of frozen Brussels Sprouts

� - 1 teaspoon of salt ( use sea salt)

� teaspoon of black pepper

� teaspoon of garlic powder

� teaspoon of onion powder

� teaspoon of dried oregano

� teaspoon of dried basil

(This is the seasoning combination I use. You may use whatever you like)

1 tablespoon of olive oil

Directions:

Preheat the oven to 425 degrees on the roast setting (if your oven has one)

Spray a small baking dish with cooking spray

In mixing bowl toss the Brussels sprouts with the seasoning and then the oil until thoroughly coated

Place the Brussels sprouts in the baking dish in single layer

Roast for 30-40 minutes or until they appear slightly charred on the outside

Garlic Bread

Ingredients:

� cup of butter or margarine (1/2 stick) melted

� cup of olive oil

3 cloves garlic, finely minced

1 (1 pound) loaf of Italian or French bread, halved lengthwise

2 tablespoons minced fresh parsley

Directions:

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees

Mix the melted butter with the olive oil and the garlic

Brush the garlic mixture evenly on the cut sides of the bread

Bake the bread on a cookie sheet (cut sides up) at 350 for about 8 minutes

Switch the oven to the broiler setting and broil the bread about 6 inches from the broiler for about 2 minutes or until golden brown.

Sprinkle with parsley and serve

In this article I would provide you with a list of the coffee drinks that are most popular. Next time you visit your coffee shop you will have better information about what your order will be.

Americano: This drink is a combination of a single shot espresso and seven ounces of hot water. The name is derived from an insult to rude Americans who were not able to drink full espresso.

Black Coffee: Brewed by drip method, this type of coffee is prepared with French press style or with a percolator. The coffee is served with no milk.

Caf� au Lait: This type is very similar to Caf� Latte. The difference is that Caf� au Lait is prepared with brewed coffee as a substitute to espresso. In addition, the ratio of coffee to milk is 1:1 thus making the taste less intense.

Caf� Breva: This is one variety of cappuccino. The difference between the two is that it is made of half and half milk and not full milk. The half and half milk gives a creamier and richer flavor than the whole milk. If you are preparing this type of coffee at home you should be aware that it is harder to foam half and half milk than full milk.

Caffe Latte: Basically this type is made of one shot of espresso and steamed milk, the milk is not frothed. The ratio used of milk to coffee is 3:1.

Caf� Macchiato: One shot of espresso with steamed milk. As you notice this is very close to Caffe Latte with the exception that the ratio of coffee to milk is 4:1.

Cappuccino: This is a combination of equal portions of coffee, frothed milk, and steamed milk. Flaked chocolate or cinnamon is usually sprinkled on the top. Some coffee shops increase the quantity of milk used so that the customer gets a bigger cup. This will make the taste of coffee lighter than it should be.

Double, or Double Shot: As the name implies this is double the quantity of espresso mixed with milk. To prepare a double shot put two shots of espresso in your coffee cup and drip mix together.

Dry Cappuccino: Less popular than the regular cappuccino. This variety comes with less foam and without any steamed milk.

Espresso Con Panna: Your regular espresso with whipped cream at the top.

Flavored Coffee: This can be any variation that is added to alter the plain flavor of your coffee. It comes in different forms such as syrups or spices. The most popular is the chocolate and cinnamon.

The different types of coffee drinks that I have mentioned in this article are not all what you can find in coffee shops. The variety that you see shows how much popular coffee is as a beverage.
